Newbie? Just starting out?

Hey All,

I'm a total newbie. I've been reading for weeks, buying things here and there and am at the point where I THINK I'm going to start and then I start to read AGAIN. I have purchased a few domain names but.. but.. but.. there is always a but that leads me back to reading.

I KNOW there must be more of you here so I'm thinking you should all email me and we can get together a small group where maybe we do a morning or evening meeting in Skype and then bounce ideas off each other etc.

I'd hope it can put us into action mode rather than read mode.

I feel like I have a good enough footing to get moving but yet I read more each day... so who's with me?

Email me at savings at team gorman dot com. No space between the two words.

Looking forward to getting a few of us together and start to really move!

Welcome... I don't think you need skype or a meeting, Just take what you have read and put some action to it.

I am in the same spot, maybe just slightly ahead of you. I really think you need to take some action first. Getting together a bunch of us who have different levels of knowledge may not work. Once you start moving and asking questions, you can fill in the gaps. Worse case scenario is you do something wrong and have to do it again. Good Luck

I think that it is a great idea. Put together a group that holds each other accountable. Then if you meet together once a week you can talk about where you are seeing results, and where you are wasting your time. I think a mastermind group would be beneficial to all. No one wants to report that they sat around all week reading but never implemented anything.

As for where you are right now, I would recommend taking action. Not tomorrow, or next week. Right now. I have read hordes of information on this forum, but none of it will do you any good until you start taking action.

I wouldn't mind setting up a mastermind group myself. I am definitely not a guru, although I think that I am growing close to leaving the newbie stage. Right now I have replaced about a 1/5 of my income with IM. I would love to be a full timer.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I'm taking action, but I've yet to see any positive results yet.

My first goal is to get any type of search engine traffic to my free blog sites. 4 blogs (working on a 5th) trying different things I've read here on the forums and elsewhere but haven't had a single scratch yet.

The benefit behind the weekly meeting would need to include someone who is actually beyond the "newbie" stage who can better direct the group. I've posted messages here on the warrior forum asking questions, and while some do get answers--most of them sink into an abyss with no responses.

Something that may be more beneficial is to create a blog where people in the group can respond or create new posts for the group. This way you have historical reference to fall back on.

When I can bring in an extra $500 a month from IM as passive income, I'd be pretty happy. When I learn how to do $500 I can just multiply the work and turn it into much more.

To be honest, I think we were all there at one point or another...there is so much information available out there...

If your not careful you can get stuck in information overload and never get anything done...sometimes I still find myself sitting down and reading when I was intending to sit down and make a video or build some links.....

Having a skype meeting may sound like a good idea...but the problem is that all you are doing is creating another reason not to get anything done and your substituting a weekly/daily skype meeting for actual action.

The key here is to just get started.

Condition yourself to just start doing...and taking massive action every single day.

Set a time everyday where you maybe read an ebook or watch a video...(preferably at the end of the day so you don't get distracted by the new stuff you have learned).

Just make sure you are getting something done every day...pick a plan and stick to it

If you don't you will be right back here in 3 months asking about how to get started...

    Good luck

(never stop learning....but always take action!)

You said you bought some domain names. Do those domain name have some natural traffic? If they do, your would probably be better off by parking those domains while you sketch out some ideas for your blogs, etc.

I based the bulk of my business model in monetizing domain names rather that affiliate marketing. I know that most warriors would prefer to develop content and get into affiliate marketing first, but that model is increasingly harder to get into profitably, unlike domain flipping, IMHO that is.

Check out Bryan Zimmerman and his Newbie University

The Newbie University - The Newbie U

He gives out great information, videos and webinars with no hard sells (no-sells actually.) It is a fluff free zone and there is a great community forum for newbies (and not so newbies). He simplifies the process of getting started and taking action.

Do yourself a favour and sign up - then just focus on one of his action plans.

I signed up to the University, the first PDF they send you while you're waiting to be approved was very informative and contained more of those "ah hah" tips I probably have over looked in other posts / messages as my eyes bleed through all the reading trying to figure out how to put all the pieces together!

    Thanks for providing that resource!

For a total newbie there is a massive amount to learn. I think those of us who have been doing it for a while forget how difficult it is to start.

Here is what I would advise you to do:

STEP ONE: Get a report in the niche you are going to be promoting, one which grants you rights to give it away. I realise as a newbie you want something of great quality not a scrappy 8 page bit of useless info. I agree but don't spend forever searching. The quality of your free report is not the focus of the exercise.

STEP TWO: Get a squeeze page (use a template if you don't want to build one from scratch). Put your opt-in form code into it and set up your autoreponder to give away the free report.

Okay this part is quite techy for a newbie. Even if you get a squeeze page template you still have to edit the page (use Kompozer) then upload it to your own website (use Filezila). And you need to learn how to use an autoresponder. Try the free account with get response, but be prepared to pay for a service such as GetResponse or Aweber, it is the only way you are going to be able to run a successful and professional looking business.

STEP THREE: Drive some traffic to your squeeze page. You will get traffic if you pay for it, learn the basic of PPC, but DO NOT go silly, just see if you can get your ad to show, then see how many click throughs you get, and how many people opt-in. Also look into article marketing.

Theres a lot to do there, and thats just the start, but at least it is real action. The point isn't to make money (heck it's going to cost you a little bit). Once you have got this far, that when the real learning begins.

    Enjoy your IM journey
