How would I drive traffic to a Gossip-type blog?

Hello,

I have read up on many SEO strategies and backlinking and I am not sure if this would be such an valuable way to try and drive traffic to a blog I am working on right now. I've actually just finished it and am just tweaking a few things.

It's a gossip-type of blog, kinda.....its hard to explain.....lol

I'm not trying to sell anything, but I would like to get people to come visit the site and post comments and sumbit 'gossip-style' content for my blog that I can post and have others comment on.

I am hoping to get followers that could be updated when changes are made and possibly even get followers on facebook, twitter, etc.

I have never used facebook or twitter so I'm not quite sure how to even do that.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The hardest is always the beginning. If you can make some friends, or otherwise get some people to start making regular comments (and even use facebook connect), there will be the sense of activity and others will tend to want to join in. The second hardest part is maintaining this level of activity for a few months. Once you get that far you will probably be good for long time after that.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Gossip of any kind is great to be worked from social media. You cna make a lot of noise and some juicy back links.

Maybe comments on other blogs and forums (niche forums) are good options.

From there, you might want to make campaigns for each page around the main long tail keyword.

mmmmmm a lot of fun!! lol

Well if you have something that's really spiking high on Google trends (gossip usually does, think about Tiger Woods recently) do a little social bookmarking with commentary. Here's something I picked up recently: I take a look at Google trends and note what's trending. I then go over to Xomba or a similar site and write up a little blurb about it and title the Xombyte the exact keyword of the trend and link to a blog or news article. 8 times out of 10 the Xombyte ends up on the front page of Google, especially if I'm lucky enough to hit it early on.

I personally have little purpose in doing this, I just like playing the how quickly can I rank with Google game and it earns me some adsense, but for someone like you with a relevant blog it's a great traffic driver. Also if you have one bookmark that ranks high people tend to take a look at your other bookmarks.

Build a twitter account and get subscribers.

        Find celebrity vids on youtube.

Download a couple using videodownloadhelper in firefox.

Get your outsourcer to edit footage together.

Upload new video to your own account.

Find high traffic celebrity videos, and add your own video as a video response with links to your twitter account and blog.

        Wash, rinse, repeat!

    What kind of gossip?

    Celeb?

    Local politics?

    There's different approaches for each.

  • Gossip is low-hanging fruit. I have one blog where I post the occasional celebrity story. You get hundreds or thousands of views in minutes if you have a juicy headline. You get residual traffic off searches. I'm number one for "(starlet) thong" and on the first page for the same starlet nude, naked, etc. -- without a single picture!

Gossip is EZ. Post something quickly, blast it out there on your feeds, twitter, whatever. Do it every day and if you write well you'll soon have a tribe. I hate to do it because it's exploitive and empty, but whatever floats your boat.

Main thing is keep at it.
