PROBLEM: I get redirected to domain without www

Hi

I've registered mydomain.com at hostgater (baby). Now that I'm viewing my site I see that the address is not http://www.mydomain.com, but instead http://mydomain.com?

How do I use the cpanel of HostGator to change it so that it displays http://www.mydomain.com ??

There is a button called Redirects, under the domains tab in your cPanel..

You can do it from here...

Or... you can add the following text to your .htaccess for the domain:

    Options +FollowSymlinks
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mydomain\.com
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [R=301,NC]

Don't quote me on that code, I am doing it from memory, but I think it's correct!

    Peace

Agreed, I set all my domains to work without www.

      It makes shorter URLs.

I don't mean it's bad thing to have without www, it's just that most people (my humble opinion) associate url having a www.

and maybe it have some seo value, not sure

    Hello,
I may be corrected if I am wrong but you can type in both in just about any browser
    and get the same results.
If you want to make a business card up just do it which ever way looks best.

Lou, it can be important for backlinks. If you have a mixture of www and non-www links, it may dilute their effectiveness. That's why it's best to stick to one or the other.

If you're in a non-IM niche, where your visitors are used to associating websites with www, I can understand why someone would want to keep the www as a default.

I think you should have a cPanel.Go there and find the domain column. Then use redirect function to change to url with www or without www.I think it'll not affect SEO,but make sure you should keep it only with www or without www.It's more friendly to SE.
