My 500th post - 5 Fast Product Research Techniques

I was going to turn out the lights and go to sleep when I suddenly realized I had 499 posts.

But how could I go to sleep after seeing that?

I decided to write down 5 of many techniques I use for fast product research.

So here we go:

1. A Google search:
+filetype: pdf +"table of contents" +"put your topic here"

(there must not be a space between filetype: and pdf, but the forum software automatically turned that into a smiley face if I wrote it like it should be written - +filetype:pdf)

This will pull up pdfs written by people who have cared enough about their content to write a table of contents

2. Amazon.com Look inside
Search for your topic. Click on the books that have a "Look inside"-icon. Look at the table of contents page of the book, and take notes.

3. Google image search:
Go to Google Images. Search for your topic +ecover

Example:
+"viral marketing" +ecover - Google Images

Click on an image. You will many times be sent to a sales page. Take notes for bullet points etc. to make your own product.

4. Google for similar words:
You may want to find all sorts of tutorials, guides and so on for a topic. Use ~ in front of the word you want to include similar words to.

Example:
+"paypal button" +~tutorial
+"paypal button" +~tutorial - Google Search

5. Amazon book reviews for product research:
Amazon book reviews can be good sources for getting useful information to make your own product.

Example: You want to find reviews of books about blogging, but only for those books that have 10 reviews or more:

Google search criteria for such a search can be:

+"10..100000 customer reviews" +site:www.amazon.com +blogging - Google Search=

Hope some more warriors will tell their most used product research methods!
