Can't convert my email list to profits. Help!

I'm trying to go build a list on a few non IM niches... I"m getting a few optins a day... one of the niche has about close to 70 optins now. That's not a lot for sure but I've only seen 1 sale so far.

What am I doing wrong? I"m promoting some Clickbank products. At the moment, I"m outsourcing the articles and the conversion rate is not covering my costs.

Any advice?

    There are so many factors here that can cause different results...

    Your relationship with the subscribers for example...

    If you ask me to have made money from email broadcasts to 70 new subs you're doing good

    • Dean, that is some good advice given there. You MUST make sure you develop a relationship with your subscribers. Build their trust by posting remarkable content on your blog, give them VALUE and expect nothing in return. They will come to trust you and your judgment.

      If your subscribers trust you then they will be more likely to listen to your product recommendations in the future.

  • Who's to say that your email copy is converting after only 70 people...

    You have to test different email copy to every 100 or so opt-ins the same way you'd test a sales letter or landing page... You're trying to get them to take a certain action so see what type of content converts the best to make them take that desired action.

  • How knowledgable are you of the non-im niche you are in? Does it shine through.

    You can easily deal with that buy buying plr articles and delivering them to your list.

    Don't always sell. Limit selling perhaps to one or at most twice a month.

    Work on developing a relationship.

    what's your opening rate?

    what's your click-through rate?

      into your list in the first place.

      What are they expecting?

      Is it a list of buyers or
      freebie seekers?

      This is where real old school marketing
      comes in.

      "Back in the Day" when we had to pay a lot more
      to advertise to a list we did a lot more work
      testing and researching to make sure we had a good list
      before we rolled out a campaign.

      Maybe you have heard of a set of books
      called SRDS, Standard Rate and Data Service?

      With research you could actually find
      lists of people that purchased similar products
      to what you where trying to sell.

      A buyers list!

      You could even find out when was the last time
      they bought, how much they spent, all kinds
      of good stuff.

      But you didn't just buy the list and mail it.

      No! No! No!

      You would get a sample of the list and test mail it.

      If it did OK you would buy a lager sample and test it
      because some list brokers would give you a hot list
      as a sample to suck you in.

      Then if things all went well you could roll out
      your campaign.

      This is not all of the details, but you get the idea.

      In a nut shell "back in the day" this was the mantra
      and smart online marketers know it today.

      Right target audience, at the right time,
      with the right offer = sales.

      Bye the way SRDS is still in business.
  • Very much agree with Blase. I have a list of 6,000 that i can't sell anything to. OTOH I have much much smaller list that I do very well with.

    In addition to what everybody else said about developing a relationship and all that stuff, it really depends on whether they are buyers or not, and how targeted the list is.
  • If your copy isn't pulling, I might be able to help. There's 7 videos on email and autoresponder copywriting in the Youtube link at the left (all free) that can put you on the right track. And if you want to take the next step, see my sig.
  • Keep in mind that you have to contact someone AT LEAST 7 times to gain their trust enough that they will buy from you. If you haven't contacted your list more than 7 times, you don't have enough feedback to determine your success or failure.

    Make sure you give your subscribers QUALITY content. Don't pitch to them in every email you send them. In fact, you might want to include a few emails in your AR that DO NOT have ANY promo links in them at all.

    Mix your quality content with solo promo ads - like someone said, keep your promos to an appreciable number and certainly no more than 1 per week or 2.

    A typical mailing cycle I've seen is 2 articles, 1 promo repeated throughout the month - with a 3-day interval between each mailing. So you'd send
    Day 1 - article
    Day 3 - article
    Day 5 - solo
    Day 8 - article
    Day 11 - article
    Day 14 - promo

    and so forth.

    • This is a working plan. Not one I would use but hey everyone is not me . Bet that doesn't upset anyone LOL .

      I do have to disagree with the seven contacts . This has been stated so many times it is believed to be fact .

      I have sold a lot of stuff via the oto. A lot more stuff on first contact .

      I never send out a direct sales pitch ( well almost never ) . I also never send out an email with out a link in a ps file .

      If the seven times rule was concrete fact then all successful marketers would never send a link out until the 7th email.

      Ad swaps and joint ventures would become obsolete

  • Thanks for all the feedback. I've set up the AR series similar to what Sylvia mentioned. Mostly useful articles about the niche with a link recommending the product but conversion sucks. Maybe I need to tweak it more but the progress is really slow and I think I need to do something more.
