Need Help with Wordpress Page

Hi,

I've uploaded a wordpress theme and it has two pages that come with it, HOME and ABOUT.

I would like to create a real Home page but when I look
in the SETTINGS, the HOME page that came with this theme is
not listed, just the ABOUT page is.
If I create my own Home page, I end up with 2 Home pages.

Is there a way to change the name of the HOME page
(which displays the latest posts) that came with the theme?

thanks,
bob

  • You can create a page, called home -- or any other name. Then create a blank page and name it Blog.

Then go to your Settings, choose Reading, and set your home page as a static page and choose the one that you want as a Home page from the drop down list -- the Front page choice. Then choose Blog as the Posts page. In your widgets, enable Pages so that the home page and blog pages are both visible.

This is a quick explanation, if you have more questions, I can elaborate...
  • By default, the wordpress homepage is a list of the latest posts. If you want a custom home page, you have to create a new page first.

    1. Go to your WP Dashboard
    2. Click Pages
    3. Click Add New
    4. Create your page using HTML or the WYSIWYG editor. If your theme came with a custom home page, on the right, where it says Page Template (or something like that), click to use the Home template that came with the theme
    5. Save and publish your page
    6. Go to the settings in your WP Dashboard
    7. Click "READING" under your settings menu (on the left)
    8. Make Wordpress display a static page as your home page. Select the page you just created, click Save Changes
  • Actually, none of the above would solve the OP's issue.

He just came across one of those dumb theme "developers" who put in a hard coded link to the "Home" (aka index) in the header.php.

You need to remove that link if you want to use your own homapage.

  • For modifying theme files you don't need to backup the database...
(the rest is correct: exactly what I said above )

    • Istvan is the Man!

Wow, this has been some type of headache, trying to make that
      pre-installed HOME page disappear!

I followed your directions and bingo, bongo, gonno
(please excuse my Shakespearean mellifluous verbiage
but when you finally are able to get that tiny pebble out of
your shoe, well, that's cause for celebration.

Istvan, just let me know when you need your house re-roofed
(not that I've ever done that before), but for you, hey, I'll go and
look at a youtube video before coming over

      thanks,
      bob
