Article marketing, What search volume should i look for ??

Hi guys,

Just a quick question, I want to get a few articles online and was just wondering whats the minimum number of monthly searches for a keyword you would want to see before you actually went ahead and wrote your article ??

So i`m going to use go-articles, i have a few products, what keyword search volume should i not go below ??

Cheers Jim

    Hey Jim...

Nobody can really give you an answer for this...

I change my mind all the time, the answer you are looking for lies in the quality or "buying" nature of the keyword.

If a keyword is a hot buying keyword, then I'm prepared to go real low on the monthly searches, get some content out there and test that baby...

Getting your head around keyword research, testing etc for article marketing is a whole lotta trial and error. This way, you will have your own stats, and figures to go by.

    Peace

    Jay

I agree with what JayXtreme and Alexa said.

If I was the only person in the world having a problem that I felt ruined my life on a daily basis, and you were the only person that had the solution to my problem, how much do you think I would pay you to solve my problem?

Right now my tendency is to ignore anything below 200 A DAY and not bother with "peanuts" anymore.

900 daily searches and only 21k competing pages in Google: Heaven

    And yes..Market Samurai rocks!

Every day I check the obituaries. If I don't see my name there, then I know it's going to be a good day!

I go after money keywords, which are easy to rank for. Then move to posting quality content, adding backlinks,

So search volume is taken care by quantity of keywords i am targeting.

It's not that I don't take interest in search volume, it is that I don;t take any interest in MINIMUM search volume. I really don't see a reason to place a bottom number on it and miss out on potential clients, list members and customers - especially when the competition for them is so low.

Allen, with that one example (900 daily searches and 21k competing sites)...i reached a rock solid #1 Google position and many thousands of views. I think its defintly worth it.

What's your strategy? I think i just read in another thread where you said that articles often rank for "unexpected" keywords - and you are actually right, i observed that too.

One of the first thing I learned in IM in regards to keyword research is that like some of the above say, the better converting keywords for me have been the ones with lower searches, but are keywords searched for with buying intent.

I think alot of people get seduced by the amount of searches, but 10000 daily searches for example "free information here", will not covert as well as say 100 searches for " Proof the $37 system you have been thinking about buying works" (extreme example I know)

I think keyword search figures are more relevant for articles on your own site than an article site. A lot people don't realize it, but EzineArticles has a demographic range. There are countless keywords that do fine for other websites that get no traffic to speak of at EZA. Then there's the EZA competition factor. Only 2 pages from EZA can come up in a given search. Some keywords have hundreds of competing articles. Most experienced pros seem to concur that article marketing for traffic is a numbers game. Write 100 articles in a niche and a handful will make you some money.

I'm steering more toward my own sites for traffic and just using articles for backlinks. That way you don't have to worry about ranking or the article site pulling off traffic or in-site competition. And you can keep building solid traffic and benefiting from it without middleman complications.

The lowest I've heard of is about 1000/month, but of course you should not be expecting too much for something like that. I'd say go for at least 5000/month or more.

Everyone has a different opinion and some people "don't bother with analyzing monthly searches anymore" but then don't explain why, ha ha.

    Good luck.

Sorry, had to do some Christmas shopping this morning,

Since that last post seems to be aimed at me, here's a blog post I just wrote that explains why.

Keyword Phrase Monthly Search Volume - Should You Target Low Volume Keywords?

George, that's an awesome result you got. Glad to see you are not ignoring the low hanging fruit.

For those who ignore the lighter searched keyword phrases, go ahead and keep ignoring them, I'm not trying to tell anybody what to do, I was just saying what I do.

I wasn't trying to up my post count. I was just truthfully (and yes, briefly ) answering Jim's question, that's all.

    All due respect,
