Just Bought A New Desktop Computer For Under $200

I was looking for a inexpensive desktop for one of my kid's and came across the Acer Revo 1600 in "Best Buy". The price was easy on the wallet, $199.00. It does not come with a monitor or DVD/CD player/recorder.

I set it up for my kid and liked it so much I bought another one just to keep in my bedroom.

The Acer Revo 1600 is essentially a netbook without a built in screen or battery. It runs the Atom processor and has Windows XP installed. I read a lot of reviews on the internet, and some were good and some were mediocre.

The mediocre reviews complained about speed of the processor. I have found the speed more then adequate and have no complaints.

I have been a netbook convert for over a year and I really like them. They are small and easy to travel with. I myself don't think they are underpowered for many of the tasks most people need a computer for. If you are a die-hard gamer this is not the computer for you.

But, if you just need a computer for every day use or just want an extra computer for another room, I think this is a great computer at a great price.

I have Camtasia on the Revo as well as Photoshop CS4, Lightroom, Dreamweaver and Microsoft Office and they all run without problems. I tried to install Adobe Premiere Pro and was told the computer needed more RAM by the installation program. The computer comes with 1 gig of Ram and I saw on Youtube you can add an extra gig for 2 gigs total. Though it is not supported by Acer.

For all you marketers, I run most of Big Mike's Bot software on it as well as Bookmarking Demon.

I am a big fan of internet radio and run AOL radio in the background while I do my computing tasks.

I really like this little computer with its small footprint and I highly recommend it.

There are some good cheap deals out there on refurbished small form factor desktops. I picked one up for my mom for $129 with free shipping. It didn't come with a monitor (already had one), only has 1GB of memory, and I had to add a modem since she'll be on dial up, but it does have a DVD player/CD writer combo drive.

I'm a big fan of Acer netbooks...couldn't live without mine!

Yeah, the processor is fine for what I use it for, and I added an extra gig so now it's at 2.

    Great deal!

I'm still using a 5 year old PC (Sony Vaio), but it's on its last leg. I'm so glad the netbook revolution came along when it did, because it's putting serious downward pressure on all computer prices, as far as I can tell. I'm looking forward to getting a nice new one on the cheap early next year.

I have bad luck with Acer.

      Not to discourage anyone.

I have had 3 in the last 3 years and all of them have had some type of issue.

my 1st one kept shutting off on me due to a short. Sent it in to the manufacturer and they said they fixed it.

      Not.

My second one had for 6 months and somehow got a virus and by by mother board.

My 3rd one was making loud funny noises and just gave it to my brother.

He says it still makes loud noises but if he smacks it around a bit. The noise goes away.

So now i have had a mac book refurbished that i paid $300 dollars for.

So far i love it and have had no issues with it.
