Bad Ideas That Surprisingly... Work!
I just got an email this morning about a restaurant in Taiwan - Modern Toilet. (You may have seen this email.)
In case you haven't, here's the concept...
You sit on a toilet to eat... while your food is served in miniature toilers / urinals / etc.
Sounds appetizing, right?!
When I read that and saw the images in the email, I thought for sure it was a hoax. But, lo and behold, it seems it's actually true (see video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqnnHjtJJac)
Now I'm all for originality... BUT, I simply can't imagine going to eat at a restaurant like that, it just doesn't seem like an ambiance conductive to making me keep my food down!
But, I guess I must be in the minority because this little toilet chain seems to be doing quite well for itself - a look at their website (http://www.moderntoilet.com.tw/en/store.asp) shows they have... 13 different locations!
Anyway, moral of the story is: you never know if an idea is going to work or not until you test it. Being original can sometimes make up for a pretty *sh!ttty* idea
Cheers,
Dave
P.S. Having said that, you should still keep this in mind when testing out any new idea:
1) Know your market and
2) Limit your losses
Just because this idea worked in Taiwan doesn't mean it'll work in your country. Also, setting up a new restaurant is kind of expensive(!) You probably want to test smaller in case it turns out to be a real dud.
P.P.S. Have you seen an idea that's worst than this one... but worked? If so, please share it here, we might all learn something new, and laugh a bit
