E-books: WHEN and WHY writing one is good?

I have noticed just about every post and signature I look at mentions e-books..... What's the deal with that? Is this THE thing to do? It seems like every single post is about ebooks. What am I missing?


I am a photographer and am looking into marketing myself and am wondering if it would be a good idea for me to market myself into writing a e-book of a how to on "Band Promotional Photography" or How to for a actual photo shoot step by step?

Would that be wise?

  • yeah, it could be. Writing a print book is better. An ebook,
    report or whatever you want to call it can be given away from
    your site at no cost to you - so that's the angle.

    If you want to sell an ebook that is kind of different. Many
    more people will read it if you give it away. So if your goal
    is to get clients, creating an ebook that shows your expertise
    in some way is a good marketing tactic.
  • Depends on the subject. Ebooks are a great way of boxing up information to sell or give away in certain niches. Also there is a strong viral element to the potential for passing pdf's around.
  • Its more about selling digital products than ebooks
  • That's the easiest fastest and cheapest way. You can get started with your e-book and then based on the respond you get you can create video courses if you want.

  • A great reason to create an ebook is when you want to teach something, so like "how to" guides are perfect for this.

    Most people who buy an ebook want to solve a problem, and they usually want the solution right away, so if you're ebook has the answer or solution they're looking for, they'll be able to download it right away.

      It's really important to own a ebook or any products. It's seems that the people who have their own products have more success that the other who don't have own one.

  • The technology has made creating an ebook so easy now, too. Nothing like the hoops you had to jump through a few years ago.

    You know how they say "the money is in the list?" Create a good ebook in a day or two and give it away in exchange for someone's email. Best way I've ever found to build a nice, targeted list super fast. You can post it as a WSO here, do some article marketing for it, put a link to it in your signature, etc. That's exactly what I would recommend to anyone new to IM. You don't have to be an expert to write an ebook. Just do good research about something people are interested in. You're giving it away, after all.

  • Yes. Create your own product.. make some videos about it if you don't like to write much.

    I personally don't like to write much... mostly because I'm not really good with english. Even in my own language.. I don't like to write.

    And to answer your question.. creating ebooks and any other products is to make money. You are offering someone.. something that they want.

    • Dont look at it as an "ebook" even though that is what it is. Look at it more of a means of 'transport' so to speak.

      Whether it be a downloadable video course, ebook, dvds or a membership site, they all succeed at getting one thing done ... delivering information.

      Of course with video courses, dvds and physical courses you can charge a much higher price.

      Just go with what you think you can do. if you start with an ebook, and you later decide to make a video course or membership site, you can give the old ebook away to create a list.
