Attention Bum Marketers...What's your click rate at EzineArticles?

I'm still kinda new at IM and I'm doing Bum marketing until I get some good checks from clickbank.

Currently I've made about $240 using Bum Marketing but sales are REALLY down this month.

My question is what kind of click rate are you getting at EzineArticles? My best is 30% (with no sales) my worst is 10%.

For you top Bum Marketers, what stats do you have for views and clicks? I just wanted to compare myself to some of the top guns and learn a little from you.

Thanks for you help and input.

Later days,

Shane

In a webinar last week Chris Knight said you should be happy with 4 to 12 percent. I don't know what planet he's living on though. I know people who are consistantly hitting 35 but they have been at it a lot longer than I have.

I've got a little over 200 articles up and my CTR is 12.1%

In looking over the difference between the winners and the losers I think I've found one of the problems.

It's in the title. All my 5 steps to...6 ways of kind of titles suck CTR wise. I'm attracting people who just want quick info instead of engaging them in their real concern. The more emotional or spiritual appeal the title has, the higher the CTR.

I don't know if that helps. My only advice is to keep testing and optimizing both title and resource box.

    Hey Shane,
In response to your question, I have to agree with Tallship and say CTR usually comes from Title. Ive been doing some research into my articles and found that the more clever or engaging the title, the higher my ctr is to my websites. I have about 160 articles up, with 62,000 page views, with about a 10% CTR. Hope this helps.

    1. Titles get you more (or less) page views.

    2. Content keeps readers engaged (or loses them).

    3. Resource boxes convince them to click to your site (or leaves them cold).

Most article marketers get 0-2 of those right, but it's rare to get all 3 right. When you do, your CTR shoots way up. But you can get the first 2 wrong (titles and content) and still get good CTR by offering something valuable for free in your resource box. That's what I almost always do these days. I'll offer a free report directly related to the subject of that article and send the readers to a simple squeeze page. They "pay" for that "free" report by subscribing to my email list. I get "paid" on the backend with sales pitches in my autoresponder series.

This is the best way I've ever found to both jack up CTR and make the most of your article marketing efforts.

Thanks John - nice to the point run down. I notice articles with strong compelling questions definitely draw more clicks.

    What John said.

I get 30 percent when I am not offering anything free.

But more like 50 when I am.

It is really dependent upon the topic. Some will be by their nature exciting and juicy, so you'll get a high CTR. Others will be boring, inviting a lower CTR. But whether your topic falls into the former or latter, ensure that you don't give too much away in the article itself. The reason that people click is because they are unsatisfied with the information or choice they have on their current page.

That being said, by CTR ranges from 10% to 60%.

At EzineArticles, they track your CTR per article. You just log in and navigate to that page to see a breakdown per article.

      Hello
My CTR with over 150 articles is 40%.
I put a lot of thought into the title. I feel that it is the most important part of the article.
In addition, not many people are really reading the articles they just skim it. Therefore you must put a link within the article, Ezine allows this after the third paragraph (make sure its also past the half way mark of the article). By putting a anchor text with your main keyword within the article you will increase your ctr dramatically.

      I hope this helps

I've also noticed much higher CTRs if I offer something for free. I also like to experiment with two or three different resource boxes in my articles to see which gets the best response in a certain niche. Ebook graphics and such also lead to much higher opt-ins.

I cheat and copy titles from Google ads, successful Digg stories and YouTube. Your CTR will increase based on a proven title that works.

As John says. There's plenty of components that go into getting a decent CTR. My averages around 30%.

I agree. Thinking 7-12% CTR is good is a bit silly and not realistic to be a successful marketer.

I get on average between 15% and 25%, but I have had subjects and articles that have gotten as high as a 60% rate. My overall average is over 18% on one account and 20% on the other.

Articles are to create interest. Landing pages and sites that you're promoting are for converting sales. It's not just about CTR.

Look at your niche(s) and what copy is on your landing pages. If you're only in the make money niche, you could try expanding to other niches.

BUM marketing works, but takes a lot of time and patience. Your skills will improve over time.

Sales are down probably because people are saving most of their spending dollars for the holidays. Instead of worrying about sales being down and other people's CTR, work on what you can do right now to beef up your articles, signature link and landing pages to increase interest in the products you promote.

Sales will pick up again next month. All kinds of people will be focusing on self-improvement and how can I make my life better products.

How valuable is the information you're offering them?

Why should they click on your signature link?

Why should they buy from your site?

Work on this stuff and you'll increase sales - but this may take time and patience.

This is an excellent point. We tend to get so caught up in the number of visitors to our sites that we neglect doing the things that make the most out of those visitors once they're actually in our grasp. It's strange how often we end up concentrating on the wrong stuff in this crazy business, isn't it?

First of all, I have finally figured out lately I am not an article marketer . I am a content marketer . Big difference.

Now you have to take into consideration that I have only been using my real name for a little over a year in any of my marketing ... article wise or what ever .

I have only posted a handful of articles in my own name and admittedly , most of those were test in ways I have seen advertised that I did not think would work... some of them did .. most did not .

Any links in my sig files ... test . Some of those have been real humdingers .

I have a lot of articles that are through pen names . In a lot of different niches not even vaguely close to the MM@H niche .

What works for me is not worrying about CTR. There is a lot of people I could care less if they click on my links or not .

No one product is for everyone . With that in mind , I try to weed those out that would not be happy with the results the product produces .

I am not even looking for buyers in my articles . I am looking for new list members who are interested in the products I will offer them.

While 300 words may get more clicks , I may use over 5000 or more by the time the member has been through the entire process .

Is the way I do things for everyone . Not in the least . Most do not have the patience.

Is this the most profitable way ? On the surface ... no.

The clicks I do get usually will end up buying . Because they have entered a screening process from step one, very few refund . I get to keep the money my list members send me .

In my opinion, if you concentrate on the entire process, select your customers , give what you say you will, CTR will not even enter your mind .

So every single person that read the article clicked on one of your links then some of them actually went BACK to the article and clicked the other link? I think I might be missing something here because that to me sounds statistically impossible. I have an article with 83% CTR but over 100%? Maybe you could explain to us how you achieved that because I sure would love to know.

Troy makes an interesting point, sounds like his strategy is like what people do with pay per view. That is, they target it so highly that they only get people who will opt in for their services.

(at least that's what I get from his post)

50% to 100% ?!?! The highest I have ever had is 52%! Any advise for the rest of us?

It may seem obvious but even the CTR rate is unimportant or how many people are on your list. Its whether the people who click are targetted buyers. I would rather have a small list of buyers than a gigantic list of tyre kickers.

Very true. I have no list yet, won't build one until I'm making $1000 a month article marketing. But you're right. The CTR does not matter. I simply wanted to compare myself to the more experienced bum marketers, that's all.

      Thanks,

    Hi,

    I have 397 live articles, 95,370 Views, 20,768 Clicks, CTR 21.8

I posted about 60 articles in the beginning that got almost no clicks. I literally had two that had over 1,000 views and not a single click. Those failures are included with the numbers above. Seems like at least somebody would have accidentally clicked!!!!!

Here's deal. If you use the advice given by EZA you will have next to nothing for a CTR. That's why my first articles failed so badly.

The title gets reads. the biobox (bad name) is what gets clicks.

Instead telling people who you are when nobody really cares, make them a short offer and give them a link.

Also, a lot of it is the niche you are writing for. I can get a strong 30% in some markets and others only about 10%, as averages.

This is the stats for my articles in the back pain niche, for 77 articles, first one posted on July 1, 2008.

    30,893 8,547 27.7%

Back Pain is a great niche for article marketing response. But there are others.

The moral of the story, if you need clicks look to the biobox.

You gotta focus on the title, content and resource box. Optimize them. Then give something to them for free. Make them opt-in. Then send them messages with your autoresponder.

That's the best bum marketing method I go by and it works for me. I've only posted 20 articles and I'm in the make money online niche. I have a CTR of 45% and over 1,200 views. I started bum marketing a month ago and I've made 4 sales so far.

Still got some work to do, but for only being in the bum marketing arena for a month I can't complain.
