Joomla or Wordpress for Membership Site?

I'm getting ready to start a membership site and after a bit of research it seems like the main choices are to use Joomla or a Wordpress plugin for membership sites. I'm pretty familiar with Wordpress since I currently run some blogs, but I'm really looking for the most powerful solution. So what's everyone's suggestion, Joomla or Wordpress?

I personally like Joomla for those types of sites. It's designed around user accounts and functions for those accounts.

For me Joomla is little complicated compared to Wordpress. My choice will be wordpress as wp has more friendly user interface and plugins.

I've actually started looking into this myself and would be interested in everyone's opinions. One other platform that I have been looking into that seems promising is Drupal. From my initial research (one evening worth) it seems to be almost a combination of Wordpress and Joomla. It has the capabilities of a content management system with a blog style interface. And has all of the same types of plug-ins as WP and Joomla.

Even if you are a techie like me, Joomla can sometimes get complicated.

Nothing to beat the simplicity, community and extensibility of WordPress.

I trust you are getting an idea from all the responses do far.
I currently use Wordpress and Joomla.
WP is easier to use and has heaps of plugins to add functionality where you need it.
Joomla lets you customize a lot more if you know what you are doing. Joomla also has a bunch of plugins and templates you can use.
Another option if you haven't already canceled it out, how about paying a developer for a site that meets your needs to a 'T'.
    Good Luck.

Joomla is more complicated but has a ton of better plugins for social/member sites.

I think it depend on the knowledge. If your knowledge in joomla then use joomlal. In contrary, if you knowledge in wordpress, use wordpress. I think both of joomla and wordpress are already proven.

Thanks everyone for your input, sounds like it might be easier to get started with Wordpress since it'll be my first membership site. Think I'll look more into learning Joomla though if I decide I want to do more sites. Guess the amazing thing with IM is there is always something new to learn
