Do the new FTC rules affect Canadians?

I'm sure many of you have heard the new rules from the FTC about affiliate marketing, my question is, is that only for Americans or does it affect Canadians as well?

Thanks.

Yes. They affect those of you from Northern Montana too.

Seriously. International law is extremely complex. You can't even get a straight answer to that question from a $5,000/hour international attorney.

Why would you think you could get an answer on the Warrior forum?

It's risk management. Do you want to deal with the hassles if the FTC get's Canadian and provincial authorities to help them? Do you want to deal with trying to answer what you should do when you receive a summons to a U.S. court because you are being sued by the FTC? Are you going to come to the Warrior forum then and ask if you have to appear and the consequences for not appearing?

    The answer is within you.

No, it doesn't strictly affect Canadians, I don't think. There is some legal buffer for Canadians, sure. As far as I can tell, Canada has not yet come with laws that mirror the FTC rules. However, if you're doing business with Americans, it is better to respect American laws. Canadian law enforcement eagerly bends to US will, irrespective of national laws. Why would a mouse deliberately do something to provoke an elephant and risk making it roll over and squash it?

(Canadian authorities love to hand everything they can to American interests, at Canada's expense)
