ScriptLance - and my amazing results

I posted a project at ScriptLance which required
searching on various topics and returning the information
in a certain format with an actual example shown.

I provided a Test Case on a specific topic which the
bidders needed to supply so that I could choose the
winning candidate.

The results were amazing.

Amazingly awful.

The bidders told me how expert they were e.g

* I have over 10 years internet research with special skill in the use of search engines.

* I spend 85% of my time doing research on the internet.

yet of 25 bidders a staggering 22 failed to understand -
what was very clearly stated - that they needed to supply
the Test Case so I could gauge their work

Of the remaining 3 two of the submissions were of very
poor quality.

As for the 3rd he decided to research a topic of his own
choice and gave me - the Biography of Aristotle

  • Welcome to outsourcing.
  • This is a good strategy on how to screen bidders to know their capabilities. In outsourcing, Real Gems are very difficult to find.

    • Hence the reason I tend to shy away from sites like that. I know there are tons of great outsource providers, but, damn, the screening process is an amazing journey into ineptitude.

I have had great luck outsourcing to people right here on the WF, and although the cost is more, at least I feel like I have more options, a chance to really see who I can get along with, and a decent way to judge the quality of their work.

I feel your pain though. I guess "simple" instructions are not that "Simple" anymore.

I remember in college one of my professors gave us this huge long test on crap we had barely covered. I think it was like a 100 in depth questions....what was funny was that in fine print in the instructions was a sentence that said "please only fill out your name and date on this paper, the test is to see if you read instructions carefully, please sit quitely until the end of the class"...80% of the class took the entire test.

  • Outsourcing is always hit or miss, mostly miss. Makes you wonder how these people manage to pay their bills and function in society when they can't manage to follow instructions in an area in which they're supposed to be knowlegable...
  • Harvey, ya missed a bet here. First, write an ebook on "How To Research On The Internet For Freelancers" and put it on Clickbank.

Then tell prospectives they have to buy your book before taking the test (allow it to be an open book test, of course).

So if they fail anyway, at least you made some money out of it.
