Place For Writers To Make Pretty Good Money Publishing Their Articles

I was doing some research for a completely unrelated article, and I found a resource I'd stumbled across before but not really taken much notice of. It's aplace where writers can sign up and contribute articles, but they pay you - there are upfront payments ($1 to $20), which are the least exciting part, but there are also performance payments depending on your page views. There is a complete FAQ here - Frequently Asked Questions - Associated Content - associatedcontent.com

To give you an idea of the perfmormance payments (Performance Pay - Associated Content - associatedcontent.com) they pay you $100 a month for an article with 50,000 page views a month if you have a 'clout level' of 10. Now, I really have no idea about how you go about getting a clout level of 10 as I've got my own stuff going on here and I'm too busy to really get into this, but I don't think it would be that hard if you:

* write decent articles
* know about keyword selection and basic seo
* maybe drive a few links to your articles using any of the link packets and some of the 'backlink booster' type things

I believe you can also include links to other sites (inc your own as long as they are related and provide further information). I don't believe they would look too kindly upon poor quality links, or stuffing links in those articles.

And I believe from what I did read that they have strong editorial standards - so you can't just write dribble. But writers, if you're sick of getting internet marketing rates for your articles and you have good keyword selection skills (I'd invest in a good keyword tool like MicroNicheFinder or Market Samuri), here's your chance to piggy back on a PR6 site and get some of your own back :-)

Merry Christmas everyone!

I've had a number of articles published by them. Even though there were views, I've never made a dime!

Interesting. How many article views did your articles have? I honestly prefer the idea of building up my own sites, but I know plenty of people here are happy using third party sites so I thought I'd post the resource.

Sure, that doesn't surpise me. But I thought it might be good for writers who aren't into/don't want to get into affiliate marketing. I imagine it beats the pay they recieve for an article, and the only skill they really need is good keyword research. Pick a micro niche that has good traffic potential, and on a site with decent page rank, they should do well. I just thought it might be a nice way for someone who didn't have a strong marketing bent, or someone just getting started, to earn some cash. Or for writers who really love writing and who normally sell their services to marketers on a per article basis.

Thanks Alexa! You're right - they key to earning more money in whichever is your field (writing, affiliate marketing etc) is learning how to market. But this might be one heck of a way to hone your keyword research skills if you're just starting out.

I've only published 22 articles to Associated Content (well over a year ago) and I've read that they have since dropped the average upfront payment. My average payment at that time was only about $5 per article so definitely not better than writing for customers, unless you are charging very little.

However, I do get a small payment most months for performance bonus so that has naturally added to the value of those articles over time. Here are my stats:

    Last article published was 8/3/08
    Upfront payments = $40.98
    Performance bonuses= $23.93

So I've received a total of $64.91 for 22 articles, an average of $2.95 per article. Not anything to write home about but - almost all of these articles have remained under my copyright so I can use them on my own websites. Also a few of them were also used under usage rights at Constant Content, earning me around $30 or so there. I am only at clout 5, too, although my account tells me that I am 97% of the way to clout 6.

I'm actually considering using them again coming up. I research many topics for clients and can often come up with far more articles than they ask for. I'm thinking of writing up an extra quick article each time to put over at AC or Constant Content or both.
