How Do I Start A Membership Site?

by membershipguy 26 replies
Ok.. so when I was told that making a membership site was a good idea, no one told me how much coding or bs was involved with it.. I was just told "Make a membership site".

I've tried Joomla and AEC and Community builder and they were complete and utter pains. I just want something simple and easy.

How do I start a membership site that doesn't require coding and is easy to understand? I plan to start a membership site with PLR Articles packs so my question is: Could I just sell the packs individually instead of starting an articles membership site? Instead of offering help, the only response I can ever get is "just learn coding".

I don't have the money to have someone build it for me, and I don't know coding.. I just want something simple and easy to do.

    Hi,

OK... you could just sell the packs individually or...

Like you said has been stated to you... "learn coding"
but I will put it a different way...

If you do want to start a membership site, you could get
someone (like me) to setup a script for you, fairly cheap!

Up to you, both ways will work about the same, I figure!

ok, say I sold the packs individually.

They're going to be in packs of 10, 400 words, SEO optimized, Keyword and Niche researched.

How much could I sell each pack for that would appeal to the customer? I was thinking $20 but since they're available to the public that's a bit much huh? Something like $4.99 or $9.99, but I don't know. I can write but I've never sold anything like this before.

Kim, the Demo of that site doesn't work and $137 just to find out if a script is worth my time is kind of out of my price range.

Can't you sell through paypal and have the customers opt-in and then send them the products through your autoresponder (ie send them an email with the link to the products)?

      Hey membership guy

you sound like you're really hassled by this thing ... yeah it can be frustrating with lots of options and no obvious perfect solution but that's life.

Now, relax and check out this simple idea...

I like Paul Myers' idea but think John Hillage's can 'probably' be simpler with one modification:

You set up paypal recurring billing as Paul suggested.

Now, some auto responders like GetResponse allow attachments. So how about using John's idea but attach the actual pack they bought to the autoresponder message.

So they click the approriate paypal button to buy a certain package. They pay and get redirected to your opt-in page. Theyregister with your auto responder and get an email back with the current month's articles attached.

Your job each month is to see who has not paid and remove them from the autoresponder. Plus of course each month you add one new auto responder message/article pack or replace the existing one.

You don't need any scripts. You only need an optin form which the responder provides and of course you have your home/order page.

      Have fun

      You want a simple answer?

If your web host's control panel allows you to create password protected directories, set one up. Keep your membership files in that. Change the password each month.

Set up an ordering system through PayPal with recurring billing.

Collect the PayPal email addresses that pay each month and send them an email with the site link and the new password.

      Done.

If your web host's control panel doesn't support creating password protected directories, you can still do it. Go here for instructions:

So You Want A Password Protected Page, Huh?

Harder to administer than a complete script, and not nearly as secure, but it works.

        Hey Michael

It is good of you to come back and set things right.

All too often I notice (with horror) as people get into these slagging matches ... once side makes a joke and the other responds harshly and it all gets out of hand for no reason ... thouroughly unpleasant.

I respect you for your action

Have you looked into "instant membership site creator"?

Easy peasy to set up, and you can use it with wordpress if you install the script after you use cpanel to install wordpress.

    Simple way to give downloads.

    Hope this helps,

Send me a PM. I'd be more than happy to help you customize a Joomla install to your liking. I do it with all my membership sites. I can also get Clickbank or Paypal integrated into it so the registration page is secured, etc.

I would charge, but we could chat about that first so you are comfortable with a price.

    Hey Membershipguy,

Dennis was right. Instant Membership Site Creator is the way to go.

It is in version 3.2 right now for $27, ($47 for resale rights) but if you go here:

    Instant Membership Site Creator

They are selling version 3.0 for $7, ($27 for resale rights) and I believe it has free lifetime upgrades.

How's that for staying on budget?

I'm getting ready to buy it myself. I've heard really good things about this one.

    Later,

We created a membership site creation and management system that allows you to create unlimited membership sites, add a membership system to any website...

And do it without installing a single script.

All you need to be able to do is put a link on your site to buy or register, paste a link on your site to login.

Our system is 100% web based and allows you to create membership areas and automates the entire process from taking orders and putting money in your paypal, 2co, or bank account (through authorize.net gateway) to creating secure accounts and automating password retrieval.

You can create and manage unlimited secure pages, publish time released content, publish real time content, even broadcast pages to the member areas of individuals with custom content.

There are a hundred more features... Nanacast

Yeah, we also have a wordpress plugin too for the blog types ;-)

membershipguy, my suggestion is you first build a list of features then go thru each of the scripts mentioned in this post and see which one corresponds the most.

You could also try to search for such scripts on scripts directories, eg hotscripts.

    Hope it helps.
