Question about running a "Free" WSO

OK, so I understand how to run a WSO, but if you run a "free" WSO are the customers that get the product/service still the same as a paying customer, The reason I ask is I am wondering how this works with your mailing list? i.e. Are they the same as customers who buy a later WSO?

I think a lot of people who browse WSO forum are buyers. So you would have a list of buyers. But there is a relationship factor too. For ecample, if what you deliver is great they'll listen to you more closely when you offer something later.

  there are many reasons why a WSO is run:
  1. to offer a great upcoming product to our members before its launch
  2. to test the sales page and its conversion
  3. some offer it FREE to capture emails and build their lists quickly
  4. some need quick bucks for example, emergency
  5. some did it as a form of business
  
  Different strategy is used for different purpose. =)

  That is kinda what I was asking but here is thing you have two mailing lists, one for freebies and one for buyers, which one would you use as your mailing list for a "Free" WSO?

  I think we can touch abit on product funnel.
  
  Product funnel is moving potential consumers to freebie to $7 item, then to 27 then to 67, 97, 197, 497 and slowly to higher ticket item.
  
  I think the purpose of the "Free" wso is to add new people to your mailing list for freebies.
  
  Then you shld put a backend item say 7 dollars as One time offer for these freebie seekers.

  I agree that people browsing the WSO forum are more likely to buy, but the bottom line is that you are NOT your buyers...
  
  Until they BUY FROM YOU they should be considered a prospect.
  
  However, I don't see any problem with segmenting a list you got from the WSO forum in order to deliver them more targeted offers and to test how those leads on your list convert relative to other sources.

  free offcourse .. you don't want your buyers to get into the habit of getting things for free.. however as a goodwill gesture you can give them something for free here and there but don't change their habits ...
