Tiger Woods and the Risks of 1 Man Branding...
People make mistakes; so if you're putting an entire brand on one person's
back you better be pretty sure they're not going to screw up.
I like marketers who are transparent and personal with everyone but I also
use companies that are simply branded with a business logo.
I guess they both have their pros and cons but if something ever happened to
you or you made a slip up and was on the news or in the news paper and you
were using a logo then no one would be the wiser (unless you had a well
known business name that everyone knew about)...
I'm sure a lot of people know who Perry Belcher is, he came out and was all
about personal branding but some mistakes he made in the past came back to
haunt him (sold some questionable products to people in the health market)...
He left the IM lime light to back to niche markets because he was receiving
some angry feedback and at one point he said he feared for his family's
safety.
So I guess the point is there's good things about personal branding but there's
also some risks involved... Although business logos can keep you anonymous
they leave out the personal feel that a lot of people like...
Anyone have any thought on the matter...?
