google analytics problem

Hey everyone.

I feel guilty asking this, but I have been chasing this thing in circles for way too long.

In all the time I have been in IM(7 months or so) I have never been able to properly install google analytics. I don't want to start my new affiliate without having it because being able to see if my traffic generating methods are working is essential.

I have been trying this past one for a week and still cannot get it working

I was wondering if one warrior good donate 5 minutes of their time and see what I have done wrong?

Just think of it...your help will jolt me into my 8 figure annual profits

You do not need to install it .. The stats are wrong anyways. If you have cpanel all you need is AWSTATS ..

      Hey James,

Can you tell me what AWSTATS is please, is it simple to install, is it better than Google Analytics?

      Cheers,
      Peter

    Thanks for the reply James.

I do not have cpanel, I am doing this from a simple blogger blog. I would have used wordpress(unhosted free version with stats feature) but I heard you cannot put affiliate links in that.

All the more reason to spend a few dollars and get a domain name and hosting.. You have full control over your own site.

I would buy hosting for it, but it really is not necessary for what I am doing and I do not have the $40+ right now to buy hosting.(I just bought hosting for another site on namecheap for the same amount...took out my budget for the time being)

    Thanks rtrotter.

Those were the original directions I followed. I guess I will keep trying it maybe I am leaving a space or something somewhere.

My head just feels like it will explode because of this.

I understand your need for analytics on blogger, but for future sites I advise against the use of analytics. In my opinion G's domination of the internet is way too great. They already have access to private whois information because they are a domain registrar. To use analytics is like giving them a backstage pass to all of your site's info.

Glad you found problem. Since Google's code is just javascript and a space should not make any difference, the problem is probably due to the fact that your placing it in a template for blogger. They must see the space as significant in their template parsing.

Google stats are not wrong. Comparing Google Analytics to AWSTATS is what is wrong.

Google Analytics depends on javascript to collect data whereas AWSTATS uses your server logs. There are advantages and disadvantages for each method. Page tagging as used by Google allows tracking of page views through proxies and caches, tracks client side events and allows capture of client side ecommerce data. It does not allow tracking of search engine robots and bandwidth.

Log file analysis eliminates firewall problems, tracks bandwidth and downloads, and tracks search engine spiders and robots. It has problems with proxy and caching, cannot track client side events (javascript, flash, etc).

So bottom line is, what do you want to get from your analytics? Of course, nothing stops you from using both but you have to keep in mind how each one works when you compare their reports.
