Newbie doing the 30dc needs some advice

I am a complete newbie to IM and this is infact my first post. Have been reading this forum for a while and after reading recommendations from lots of people, I started with the 30dc. It is no doubt an excellent resource to start with, for anyone who wants to learn IM..

just one question..is there any way i could apply the same techniques taught in the 30 dc without having to invest in a web hosting service at this stage..i love the techniques they are teaching, but since i have no idea about IM and have never made a website in my life, I dont feel too comfortable in investing money every month at this stage on web hosting, w/o knowing whether i would be able to make a single dime out of it.

Is there an alternative, u could suggest like trying some free webhosting initially and once i get the hang of everything, then go in for paid hosting with hostgator, as 30 dc suggest.

Pls consider this concern from complete newbie point of view. I may be wrong but i am just skeptical about investing money every month on something about which i have just a very basic idea...Pls suggest

Thanks in advance.

There are several places you can use to test some of the ideas out.

    wetpaint.com
    wordpress.com
    hubpages.com
    weebly.com

Each has it's own set of rules so make sure you read them. Set up a page and start testing things. See how it goes. Doing it makes it much more real than simply reading about it.

Hope that helps get you started.

I found Weebly to be super easy to start with. Setting up a basic website is easy there. Of course, I upgraded after I saved enough to pay for it. But I stick with them because it is great for newbies like me. I just didn't want the disclaimer on the bottom about a free site. You can't get rid of that until you pay. But it is a great place to start. What about Squidoo? I like it there, too. Believe me, I have done a lot of research on finding things cheap.

Sure you can use free sites, but if you are putting in all the effort it might as well be for sites that you own and control. Building a site is aa simple as installing wordpress automatically through your hosting account.

BTW you can get a year of hosting for $35 here. Same features as HostGator but cheaper.

Do you have enough money to host? Or is it a problem where you really really don't have the money.

I started my first site by not eating at college for a bit (not the best idea!!)

Just saying, using your own money does make a difference.

Anyway, I have made a few thousand using strategies with weebly, mainly to get started with my own sites. You can definitely head this route if you are having financial problems.

I would not discourage you from using free services, which all of us I'm sure still use them from time to time. But, the importance of having your own website cannot be stressed enough.

It doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg either. I'm hosted with hostgator, and they will allow you to host unlimited websites for $9.95/month($7.95/mo if you pay 36 months in advance).

There are also coupon codes on the internet to get your first month for 0.01 cent or even free.

The importance of having your own website is that you can have TOTAL CONTROL over what you want. Free hosting companies etc. do exist, but they are very particular with what they allow you to do, if they allow you to do much at all. That's why you need to pay attention to TOS of all of these sites. You may wake up one morning to find yourself banned for some ridiculous infraction of TOS you didn't realize existed.

For example, Squidoo and Ezine Articles just got stricter in regards to what they will allow to be submitted to them. Some people like it, others don't. Having your own website would help alleviate this problem.

    Just my 2 cents

Thank you all for your promptness in trying to help me out. You have all spoken from your experience in the IM field and I shall definately explore the suggestion you have given, like trying out weebly and also exploring cheaper ways of hosting.

Thanks Unrich, for directing me to the forum of $2 hosting..this really looks good and shall definately explore it.
