Hello Warriors,

I have a huge smile today, I learnt how to do keyword research about 2 weeks ago and its already paying off!!

I found a niche with a keyword that is searched 12099 times a day with little competing pages I then managed to get the domain name with that exact search term and now I am ranked in google @ NO1 for that search term!!

I think I may have hit the big time with this one!

workwork work work work work work work work work !!! Now to find more niches!!

a very Happy Danny

This is because Google have many datacenters and it also takes in to consideration your country preference, so it will vary from one country to the other. At any rate, congratulations! Tell me your keyword too.. joke

Well done Danny. I wish you continued success.

Google does present ifferent search results to different search clients. It takes the client's IP address and tries to present to most relevant and that sometimes mean the "most local" results, hence the difference between Google.com and Google.co.uk.

    Good luck

        brilliant question
I was working with a client- we had top google listings for a pile ofkey worked - some with 850,000 searchs per month
but they weren't ones that could be directly monetised.

(we worked it though . there is ALWAYS a way )

So I wasn't the only one thinking that!

Not to rain on your parade, because your success does deserve to be celebrated. But I agree that you should focus on monetization before you move on to the next thing.

Congrats anyway. At least you're in motion.

I believe he's wondering whether the people entering your keyword phrase have 'commercial intent' (are they looking/willing to buy something).

If your phrase was 'free money for doing little to no work', there'd be a very high probability that those particular searchers aren't looking to buy anything.

Here's one quick hint for you, when you enter your target keyword phrase into Google, how many paid ads show up? The more ads there are, the more likely it is your keyword phrase is a profitable one. This isn't a hard-and-fast rule, but it's a good start.

      Good luck!

It does amuse me somewhat that so many people are quick to congratulate you Danny, when in reality you haven't really achieved anything!

Now, I'm not slating you personally, as you seem like a smart cookie and taking action is 90% better than most people will do.

    HOWEVER...

As a few people are starting to point out...It doesn't matter if you're number one for a keyword phrase if it doesn't translate into sales.

You would not believe the amount of keyword phrases I've skimmed over that I could easily rank number one for in the past, despite the ads that might be running in Adwords (that is NOT a sign that you're going to make money by the way).

Why did I skim them? Because of two things:

    1. They are not profitable even on face value
    2. They are not able to be monetized effectively online (if at all)

I'm not trying to piss on your parade, because you could easily do big numbers from that one domain alone (and I HOPE you do matey)...but I'm just trying to bring this post down to earth...especially for the ones that are "congratulating" you.

If it were me, I'd wait until I knew what the sport was, who the sports person was, and what my odds were before I started betting and cheering.

In and of itself, it is not a definitive indicator of profitability. However, it's one quick way to see if other folks are willing to part with their hard-earned monies to advertise for those keywords/phrases.

Are some of those people paying for valueless phrases? Yes. I'm not suggesting this is the only litmus test for profitability, but it's one quick way to see if folks are willing to spend money on those phrases (i.e. place value on them). And that's part of a bigger picture of profitability.

Ultimately, Danny, you'll need to test the market to see if there are buyers.

      I wish you luck!

Incorrect. As ads that are showing has no bearing on whether you'll make money. Because:

        1. Those ads might disappear tomorrow due to unsustainable profit losses.
        2. Those ads might be running as a branding exercise alone
        3. Those ads might be running to capture leads and do all sorts of crazy "behind the scenes" revenue generation that you'll never see on face value.
        4. Those people might be making thousands on other ads and simply overlook that particular keyword phrase in their massive Adwords Campaign.

Again, see points above. It's dangerous to give advice like this unless you understand the behind the scenes implications. I think you've got good common sense for saying this, but unfortunately there's more to this game than that and I hope I don't come across as a dick for saying so ;-)

    Nick,

I'm not stating that the presence of paid ads is the end-all-be-all measure of a profitable market.

I do indeed understand there are many behind the scenes reasons for using ppc that are not directly related to buyer-intent. However, that doesn't preclude the fact that it may also indicate the potential for commerciality.

Are you being a...pooper? ;-) No - you've brought up some very valid points to consider as well.

I hope Danny has a lot of success with his new campaign, and if he (or anyone else reading) learns something cool, all the better.

That's great but I assume you mean it is a targeted keyword to whatever it is you are promoting. If so, congratulations, that's a great find. It's still worth it to build up authority and back links because it may not get such a good ranking on a related keyword that has an extra word or two. Anyway, good for you.
