Is the domain RETAILMYTHS.com worth anything?

Hi Warriors,

I own a domain called RETAILMYTHS.COM. There is nothing on it, I just own the domain.

Do you guys think it would sell for a decent price, or is it worthless?

Thanks for any input.

You can try to get it appraised at Sedo.com
They will let you know what the domain is worth.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess I will have to get it appraised or put it on ebay or afternic to find out for sure.

I know there is a niche out there for this, which is why I had bought this domain about a year ago in the first place. I have about 8 years of experience in the retail industry, starting from a bottom level stock-guy to sales person to supervisor to upper management in a large corporation now.

I had always wanted to make a website/blog where I would speak candidly about what goes on behind the scenes in the retail industry, what's really going on in a store when you're shopping there, what employees really think about you as a customer, customers who are always wrong, etc etc.. you know, hot controversial stuff

In any case the project never took off due to my other IM projects plus my job (you know the usual excuses).

So point being I personally think it is a very decent domain name, for the right buyer ofcourse, and was just trying to see if I could get some quick cash out of it.

I doubt that very much. The profit-margin in domains like that belongs to the people who find the right buyers, and doing that isn't normally a "quick cash" function.
Okay I'm gonna go search for Mr/Ms. Right Buyer now!

      Hi Shoaib,

the domain is 2 word, short and easy to remember. That is good.

keyword doens't have many searches according to google keyword tool, 36. That is not good.

in general terms, a domain will be as good as the busines you are able to build around it.

if you find someone who has a monetization plan, then this is a good domain.

that "if" is what makes the difference. i guess you never built it because you didn't really see how to monetize it... the idea you had for it was going to make everybody pissed...

if instead of planning it with the customer in mind, you transform it in a "self help" for the retail work force, then you have something good going on. As there is money there.

if you want to make a fast turn around and still make some profit, at least build a business plan for it and sell the domain with the plan.

      Hope it helps,
      Laura

        Hi Laura,

The keyword has very minimal searches you're right, I had planned to kind of just keep a blog or something on there like I said, and I have access to a large assortment of retail workers at this point so getting the ball rolling on promotion would not have been that difficult. I figured if it got anywhere, it could maybe become a brand among the retail circles.

Building a business plan and selling it with the plan is a good idea, I didn't think of that. I will probably do that or at least put a small blog with a few posts in place so the buyer can envision where this can go. Thanks!

          Hi Shoaib,

why don't go a step ahead, team up with any of the great blog flippers we have here, and build it?

the difference in numbers will worth the effort.

              Have look at this post:

              http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...web-sites.html

              the main players are there.

For what you need I would go after any of the three or four ladies that flip new websites regularly. It will be more likely a win-win situation than with the bigger players.

I would also centre the content in the retail force myths more than the customer eye-opener side...

they are all rooted in fear of rejection, and that is engrained in the survival instinct. So it is a blocker that needs to be addressed to go ahead in retail sales.

I am rapidly becoming a domain name cynic. Unless you own retailmyths.(all other extensions) I find it hard to believe that it can be worth more than the registration fee.

A client of mine owned several extensions of a domain name. One expired recently and was bought by a company in Korea. My client told me to buy it back from them. Via Sedo I offered $60 - it was claimed to be a premium domain and this was the minimum it would let me offer. Yeah, right. 3 words long - been registered for several years - no visitors - no searches - no content.

The company came back and asked $5000. Like - WHAT - HELLOOOOOO., Even on Flippa it would need an income of $500+ per month to sell for that.

We are now in the process of trademarking the name for use within the UK, which will be our sole market, using the .co.uk extension. Costs less than buying all the extensions.

                /rant - I'm going down with a cold, so I'm feeling ratty

I am in the process of getting in touch with some people from that thread.

Yup, a domain name by itself is not really worth anything these days. That was only in the good ol' days. The only way it would happen is if one had some one-word crazy .COM name, then it could probably be sold for some money. Other than that why would a company waste extra $$ on a domain name when they could probably register a similar name and spend the extra money in the promotion department and what not.
