Does This Niche Suck? Which Niche is better?

Hey Fellow Warriors,

In your experience which niches are profitable, and which should you stay away from?

Specifically I am trying to focus in on either the self development, or dating, relationship, marriage niche.

Self development seems too big, and needs to be a sub niche like overcoming depression, anxiety, self confidence, etc.

Am I missing anything? What are some of your opinions or tips on this?

I already understand keyword research.

Thanks ;-)

depends on a lot of factors...

are you focusing on one subniche and building a list?
If you are, then you will be successfull.

In my experience and opinion, pick one little subniche, build a list and give your subscribers very good quality stuff, and occasionally give them an affiliate link.

    This formula almost always works.

If you can get something set up pretty quickly, we're heading into prime time for dating/relationship niches. Valentine's Day is less than 2 months off. Get going now and you'll be all set to cash in.

By definition, a business that focuses on a niche market is addressing a need for a product or service that is not being addressed by mainstream providers. You can think of a niche market as a narrowly defined group of potential customers. Try adding some adjectives in front of your terms above to narrow your focus.

Any niche where people are spending money can be profitable.

You're looking for somebody to walk into this thread and say, "Promote
      products in this niche".

      It's not going to happen.

Nobody REALLY making a killing in a certain niche because the demand is
high and the competition is low is going to hand you their gravy train on
      a silver platter.

Learn how to do niche research.

It's a long and complex process that everybody needs to learn if they're
going to be successful on their own and not dependent on somebody
      giving them a handout.

      Here's a brief outline:

      1. Think of the things that YOU yourself buy.

      2. Make a list of keywords for those things.

      3. Go to the keyword tool of your choice and see how many monthly
searches there are for those keywords.

      4. Go to Google and see how many sites there are for those keywords.

      5. Go to Clickbank, Amazon and other marketplaces and see what existing
products are selling and how well.

      6. See what paid ads there are for these products. Check SpyFu. See
      what people are spending.

      7. Go to forums and see what people are looking for in these niches. Most
of the main niches have big forums. Do this if you want to create your
      own products.

There's more to this but this should get you started.

Sorry...nobody is going to hand you the answer. At least nobody who
truly wants what's best for you...and that's to pull yourself up by your
own boot straps and do this the right way.

Take this in the spirit in which it was intended.

I didnt expect anyone to hand me their niche etc. I was hoping for someone in any niche to give me their expert advice on what they would do in my shoes as far as which route to start or which direction to go in.

Thanks for the tips and I agree with you all. I m most passionate about self development but I get at least 90% more people asking me for dating or relationship advice on forums at events I volunteer at.

its really just the self development niche I get a little confused about. the whole depression, anxiety, confidence, etc that confuses me? Im sure I am missing alot more.

Yeah I think the Dating/Relationship Niche is so huge that there will NEVER be more Supply than Demand. There will ALWAYS be room for anyone who wants to promote this Niche with good, original quality content and good products.

People will always want to hop on their Computer to look for Romance and potential Mates. Its just a natural thing that single people and many times NOT single people do !!

Consequently, there is enough Money to go around for ALL of us for a long, long time, IMHO !!!

I agree.. I just get so bored about talking about the same things and problems people go through. But then again, that is why I jumped into IM and got out of the life/relationship phone coaching biz. So I could automatic the same content and spend more time with my wife and 3 kids.

I had volunteered for a forum type site similar to yahoo answers about 1 year ago. I was a listed expert in the fields of building self confidence, self esteem, stress reducing, communication, relationship, dating, marriage, etc.

Out of all those categories, I had at least 90-95% of the questions all about how do I tell someone I like them, or get over them, or get them to grow up, or my cheating husband or wife, etc.

Seems like I already know the answer to this but just kept dragging my feet like a 3 year old that wanted a new toy! jk... sorta...

If you really want to suceed in the dating niche get hold of Rosalind Gardners E-book - The Super Affilliate Handbook. A bit pricey but worth every penny. She makes a killing in the dating niche and will show you exactly how. Don't play around with crappy inferior products get this lady stuff - she has made it. You can only follow in her footsteps.

eaglechick is right -- Rosalind Gardner is the real deal. If you're doing affiliate selling at all, you will learn a lot from her Super Affiliate Handbook. This is one book you want to read very thoroughly, cover-to-cover, over several days. You can also get a hard copy at Amazon.com.

Have you ever considered B2B ? Lots of opportunity in B2B. Also clients have money so you don't need a lot of clients to make money I'm finding. Just got to think of some kind niche and some kind of a service that businesses need.

I think you have to pick a niche that you LOVE. I know that dating niche makes a lot of money, but I have no interest in talking about dating 24/7. I like talking about online marketing 24/7 so my focus is on online marketing only.

Take your time to decide what you like to write/talk about the most!

From my experience with good marketing you can make money in any niche and the only way to find out which niche is better is to test them out.

It was one of the projects I was planning. I had a guy that wanted me to do some live events on branding yourself and standing out. This would probably yield me the most income right off the bat. I might just go this route.

This is what I am learning but it is a steep learning curve. Alot different than live events.

Here's another one. Ask yourself what problems are prospects facing in those areas? Do you have solutions? Read questions asked at the forums that you frequent and offer solutions.

Another way is to look at Clickbank from a prospect's viewpoint and figure out which product or products address that concern with a good solution. Maybe you can improve on it, which would give you an instant idea and possibly a great subniche.

There are tons of great niches out there, you just need to dig them. Here's how I check if the niche is profitable

    1) Look if there are any products that are selling well in Clickbank, Amazon, eBay etc. in the niche

    2) Check if people are promoting the products through Google Adwords

    3) Visit the niche related forums and check whether people are ready to spend money for the product

    4) check if there is any magazine published for the niche (or subniche). If there is more than one magazine, then the niche could be very profitable.

You can check some other things as well, but the above four should give a good indication whether the niche is profitable

    Regards,

I have heard that advice many times and it is great advice. Thanks.

I was hoping to find someone here that could break down the self development niche into micro niches.

I agree that the dating niche is a good one. Especially if you are experienced and passionate about it. I love it when people tell me it's too competitive. Right!

There are thousands of guys going to the search engines looking for dating advice every day. The trick is to get your site in front of them before anyone else. It's all about the marketing.

I was told many times before that I should be going into the dating niche and from there introduce them into the being a rockstar in your life program. I had a few articles out there and the ones on dating vs the ones on creating a passionate life etc. The dating article had at least 10-20X more views. Even the videos I had made had the same effect. and that was before I even understood keywords or keyword research.
