Has anyone else lost thousands of followers overnight from their Twitter ap?

I admit it was a little surprising ;-)

A few days ago I used Twadder to unfollow just the people who were not following me.

The instructions said it would look like the software was locked up yet not to worry, it was in fact working.

When I started I had around 69,050 followers, give or take about 10. I was about 200 away from the allowed number of people I was following, 10% more than were following me. That was around 75,000 and change.

The Hot Twitter Spy program that used to be great and hasn't been supported since before November has gotten hung up and wasn't letting me unfollow more than about 200 at a time and that was a struggle to do (very time intensive, just as it has been to follow people because of unfixed bugs).

So I've tested AddNewFollowers, which has never worked and also has not been supported - hmm, is there a trend here ;-). And Tweetscope, a script that did not work and I never received a response to my request for help.

So I bought Twadder Pro and set that up. I saw it was working and my number of followers was steadily decreasing. In fairness, the instructions said it could take I forgot whether it was 10 minutes or an hour, so I let it run and continued seeing it working.

Except I also saw my number of followers going down a little. There were about 8,000 people I needed to unfollow, and after about six hours I started getting concerned the program was working "too well" because I was losing about 100 followers and I had gone past the 8,000 that Hot Twitter Spy had said were not following me that I needed to unfollow. So I went into Windows Task Manager to manually shut the Twadder Pro down.

Even though it was no longer "up" and operating, the number of followers I had was continuing to steadily drop!

I figured the program had initiated the hefty unfollowing process while it was working and it was too late for me to do anything about it. When I got online next morning, the following count was still falling.

By the time it was over - and this was after I probably added 350 new followers - I had gone from about 69.050 followers down to about 66,110 - virtually more than 3,000 lost because the unfollowing program went into "slash and burn" instead of just unfollowing people not following me.

I had contacted the Twadder Pro owner to ask him what could be done to stem my losses. He had been good earlier about helping me with a support question. This time it's been three days and I have seen no response, so I have no idea what happened with the program.

Has anyone else had any such unexpected losses from their Twitter software?

If I had known ahead of time this would have happened, I would have obviously saved my money and steered clear of the program.

We've all seen people selling accounts with maybe 2,500 followers for like $500, and I value my time considerably more than that, where this 3,000+ follower loss will realistically take me at least 10 days to just get back to where I was. (That's on "a good day" where Hot Twitter Spy is working as well as it can these days. Back when it worked right.... actually, I take that back, the 10-day estimate is with Hot Twitter Spy working correctly. With all the problems it has, instead of following the maximum of 1,000 in a day, these days I've felt lucky to get 600, with much hand-holding, so I probably lost 16-18 days of involved work getting those 3,000+ followers.

Have you had any similar problems using your Twitter software?

I think it's important for people to know these things, to make sure they're not hit with similar losses!

Warmly,
Dan

Oh no. You lost thousands of virtual friends? How horrible!

Oh wait. It's just a pretend world for wasting time. I completely forgot.

Yeah thats horrible. Sorry for you lost. Never happened to me though, I have many twitter test accounts where I test the software Im using. I dont use it in my actual twitter accounts unless I am 100% sure that it is working. Maybe you should also make it as a practice, this happens to every automation softwares out there.

    Regards,
