New membership site - looking for guidance

Hi Guys,

I am hoping some of the more experienced warriors can guide me here.

I am in the process of setting up a membership site with wishlist member...I don't have any problems in this respect however, it is more to do with setting up the various membership levels etc.and the best way of feeding the members with the content.

The site is offering video tutorials and presently has 4 different courses available consisting of some 63 hosted video's in total.

One of the courses could easily be sold for $7 or even given as a bonus, whereas the top course could easilly sell for $200 + but I want to drip feed the content

I will be adding more courses as the site develops.

My question really is should I set several levels giving access to only each course or should I lump them all together and set a realistic membership fee.

This is my first membership site and I would be really grateful of any advice you can offer.

Thanks in advance.

Graham, are the courses sequential? In other words, if I join as a member, do I take course A, then course B, etc.?

What is the point of drip-feeding the content? Is it to extend the retention time, or is there some reason intrinsic to the course itself that makes spreading it out desirable?

Given your description, here's how I'd think about approaching things. I'm fleshing this out as I type, so there are probably holes to fill in...

    > I'd set up two levels of access - trial and full membership.
    > Put the course you said could be cheap or given away in the trial member area. Charge cheap, but charge something. Maybe have an attractively priced OTO for full membership.
    > Along with the first course, trial members get descriptions of the other courses, along with calls to action to upgrade placed on their member pages.
    > Each time you add a course, send an email announcing the new course and listing the existing courses, along with a membership offer.
    > Inside the full membership area, list the available courses. Have members sign up to each course at no extra charge. Use an autoresponder to drip feed each piece of the course in sequence - along with reminders about other courses available.

There's also no law saying you can't sell access to some of the courses outside of the membership. Just make the prices high enough that joining the membership is an attractive option.

That's my two cents' worth. Or, since you're in the UK, pence' worth...

      John,

many many thanks for your reply and the guidance you have given....it is very much appreciated.

Each course is a separate entity and although each could possibly be seen as a follow on they do not neccessarily do so. ......the drip feeding was/is to try as you say, to extend the retention time.

I had thought of trial, silver & gold levels, with gold having full access to all levels, but the cheaper courses are quite short and unless I can offer something more to keep the silver members, they may cut & run.

I hadn't thought of drip feeding via autoresponder, as the courses are hosted on the membership site, but I can release access to each module at specified time periods....maybe the autoresponder would be easier to manage?!

You have given me some food for thought for sure.

      Thanks again.

Graham, you can host the courses on the membership site. Just put each module or section on its own page, then password protect that page. Use the autoresponder email to give the location and password for the module.
