Finding Offline Clients

Hey Warriors,

Recently, I've been getting more and more interested in servicing offline
businesses with web design, SEO, lead generation and all that other
consulting jazz. As a successful Internet marketing of two years, I know
that the services I (or others, if outsourced) would be fairly easy. The
only roadblock for me - and I assume many others - would be getting
the clients.

So how do you offline experts do it? What are your best client-getting
techniques, tips, and strategies?

Friends, colleagues, business cards (leave some in local markets or restaurants), local ads in newspapers.

    Just to say few ...

    Example:

When you go to an electronic shop, ask the cashier whether they have a web site. Start conversation and tell them how important it is. Give them your card and follow up with them after couple days.

There's countless ways to find offline clients... the better question to ask yourself is how do you want to find prospective clients for your business?

What works best for me might not be the best fit for your skills and abilities. You need to play to your strengths... and you need to make a consistent effort to get new prospects into your marketing funnel.

    Hope that helps,

    Mike

If only there was a part of this forum that had special offers for people to learn how to get offline clients?

      That would be cool.

Or even if there were 10 other threads with about 300 posts in each, that would be cool too.

If you are looking to network in your town, you can't go wrong with joining the chamber of commerce.

If you think about it, your services are a potential fit with a large portion of the members, everybody could use online marketing

Start by talking to the business owners you know, the owners of businesses where you're spending money and the business owners your friends and family know.

Ask everyone you talk to for referrals (who do you know who owns a business who would benefit from your internet marketing advice?)

You can also walk into businesses, let the staff or business owner come to you and ask questions about their product or service and let things lead naturally from there.

      That should get you started.

Beyond that there are many sophisticated methods you can use but starting out just learning how to talk to business owners in a low key relaxed way (asking questions and listening) is the most important skill you need to master.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanag

Yup, 90% of the methods taught still revolve around this basic sentence. You still need to be able to talk to a business owner in some capacity.

When I started out it was primarily word of mouth. I treat every customer like gold and am always very responsive to their needs, which really gets them talking.

I also joined my local Chamber of Commerce and started to get to know other business owners...which led to other groups that I joined. By showing up and talking about my business, and even giving some presentations...I slowly became the goto person.

I personally don't goto to these meetings as often, but I do have an associate that goes in my stead. Once you have built a good stream of happy customers the referrals will do well to keep you busy.

Now I spend more time targeting businesses that I want to help based off of MY criteria, because I have that flexibility.

But as stated, there are tons of ways to get clients...but you still have to actually speak with them once you get them.

I've been doing offline consulting for over a decade even though I do all things IT, the same principles still apply to seo and webdesign. The #1 resource I found for getting new clients was thru CPA firms as they know lots of people and they're clients lookup to them as a trusted advisor. If you can get on their referral list, you're golden. When I first started, my first year I picked up a cpa firm that handles very rich clients, including alot of pro athletes. Within 12 months that cpa firm sent me over 30 clients which I made over 6 figures profit on.
If you're just getting into offline consulting and don't have referral's yet I'd find a firm offer to get one keyword to #1 for free, obviously pick an easy keyword and get it to #1, fully document it's progress and then give them a list of the keywords they should target and what it will cost. Give them hard #'s. Dress it up, gets some presentation folders printed, letterhead, business cards, not something you just printed on your home pc. Spend some time and money on creating the presentation, selling to offline is all about perception.
