Are you supposed to use HTML tags for your article resource box?

I have Google alerts set up for my domain names. I use it to check where my content is showing up.

I found one of my articles on some website I had never heard of. I'm sure this is common, but the only reference from the article was my name and website name. No live link.

My question is, if I submit an article to GoArticles, I have been putting my links in like this: http://mydomain.com

Should I be using HTML tags so if my article gets distributed it will at least give me a back link?

The author guidelines at GA states that http://mydomain.com will show as a live link, and it does as long as it is on GA.

I noticed from submitting to ArticlesBase that you do need the HTML tags to get your links live. Should I do that for every directory I submit to?

Also, how common is it for someone to rip all the author info from an article that gets placed on their site?

I guess I just don't quite know all the ins and outs of the article biz.

Thanks, Matt

    Matt,
It depends upon the site really while some may take html others will not.. This is another reason why auto submitters are not always the best idea unless they are directed to one type of site or they auto detect which site allows html and which site does not.

As far as some ripping out the content, yes there are some idiots that created plugins for wordpress that actually allow the admin to rip out the live links and resource box. It's a sad thing but many actually do use these plugins so they can have an "AutoBlog" on auto pilot.

I am not saying everyone uses these plugins this way but the fact that the plugin even allows it is a shame in itself.

You will soon see services that actually offer syndication of articles from proven article directories that will not allow such things to be done to articles and those that republish will be monitored to make sure they follow the rules.

I would suggest, that if you can use HTML to create the links in your Resource box, that you should use it. Ideally, you don't just want the links, but links with keyword anchor text.

I like to use both methods. I put in a link with HTML tags and one with the domain just for variety. It seems to be working quite well for me.
