I think I just found a killer niche.

Don't laugh at me but I was just fiddling around with some keyword tools and came upon, get this, the shoe lace niche. Huge potential, little competition.

Definanetly some potential there. Unfortuneatly, I am working on something else at the moment and don't have the time. Thought someone might be interested

I was just talking about this niche the other day! Zeus66 got all mad at me for it, because now he'd officially seen everything and needed to leave the internet.

If people buy dry dog sh.t made into necklaces, herb gardening e-books, electronic downloadable party planning books then I don't see why shoelaces is not a profitable niche. Everyone needs shoelaces, right? Who on earth needs dry poo.

You may be onto something here. "Tie shoes" gets 3,616 daily searches, and only 101,000 competing pages. I haven't yet got to researching the strength of the competition so I don't know whether this is a niche for me. Also, any thoughts on montetization?

Maybe I'll spend Christmas day making a video on how to tie my laces. Maybe it would be better to do it after lunch and call it how to tie laces after several glasses of wine.
    Happy Christmas,

Possibly as an entry point to something else but:
      1. Nobody is going to pay to learn how to tie their shoelaces. It's something passed down through generations, just like brushing your teeth is...
      2. 'Tie Shoelaces' is not a buying keyword in any sense.
      3. Commission wise, you'd be wise to target something with a higher payout IMO.
So I don't think there is any money to be made here unless you own/create a product that is specifically aimed at that market.

I DO like the suggestion for tying your shoelaces whilst drunk though!

      Merry Christmas,
      Alex

My teenager is really into neon shoe laces (720 exact UK searches last month). Easily scope there for an affiliate blog with fancy shoe laces, if you can find the products; Amazon have a few. Small commissions maybe but every little helps.

Wasn't shoe laces on a credit card commercial or something? I remember watching something about opening a shoelace business and losing a ton of cash...commercial...sitcom... It's early I have no idea.

Maybe one of you guys can youtube it or something.

Anyway, definitely a unique idea. As a runner I can tell you I go through shoe laces like crazy!

It's amazing what people actively search for over the internet. I'd imagine that there are a whole bunch of fancy shoe lace designs out there that have a cult following. Imagine the possibilities if you could persuade the sellers to offer some kind of affiliate program on their shoe lace sales...lol!

A trick for finding all sorts of great micro-niches is to scale down from existing niches. Thus, from shoes you can get shoe laces, shoe polish, etc. It's easier to own a micro-niche, and once you do this you have a stake in the bigger niche and can "build sideways."

I think it's great to start with a small sub-niche - crushing it will give you a better chance at a bigger niche, which might be outside of your resources at the outset. For example, I would not have stood a chance if I had gone for "ringtones" - there's too much competition with too big budgets for me. But starting as I did with "free iphone ringtones" provides a foothold. You can then replicate this foothold with say a dozen micro-niches within the sub-niche, and the next thing you know you've got more leverage to bring to bear in the bigger picture.

I know, the Ian knot is awesome! I showed this site to my girlfriend, and after about three hours we started trying different styles of lacing our shoes and ultimately settled on the Lattice method.

Total time: just over seven hours.

Crap. I want to make a site like that. Just once, I want to build something so cool, people will spend hours looking at it.

I was actually half-serious/ half-kidding. Sex toys can sell pretty well online if you know how to target the buyers.

That is hilarious! However, if you could do a high ranking site on it, it would have related niches like shoes, sportswear, etc. Could run a CJ ad from Zappos. Maybe that is a niche in and of itself. Find these types of niches that relate and build Squidoos and Hubs on them. Might work.

When you're good at what you do, you can tell the world exactly what you're doing, secure in the knowledge that most people are losers and can't compete with you... while the rest are arrogant and won't lower themselves to such a thing.
