Is it just me, or is ever possible Two Word Domain Taken?

I swear its like someone has a computer script that grabs two random words from the dictionary, puts them together, and if the domain is available...it auto registers it!

Anyone having luck with registering two word domains (using actual words with corretc spelling?)

  • Choosing a good .com domain name needs a great deal of imagination, and perseverance. With 500,000 words in the English vocabulary, there's actually many two word .com domains left. The question is, how many of those 500,000 words are in your vocabulary on the tip of your tongue?

    I might have to bite the bullet and go three word =(

    That or use a hyphen...

    yes there are many two word domains left,it does take some work but you will
    be surprised with what you can come up with once you get on the right track.
    There are many for sale at reasonable prices as well.

      geometrydorks.com (don't ask where that one came from).

      It's available.

      For something a little more niche related:

      happyhuskies.com is available. Could be a site for husky owners looking for information on how to care for their dogs. Also hungryhuskies.com is available. I guess it depends on if you're looking for keyword-specific domain names or domain names that are user friendly (easy to remember, brandable, etc.)

      Don't go stealing geometrydorks.com, though. I'm sure that's a desperate buyer niche right there

  • I can think them up a dime a dozen ... Someone got me on Yahoo IM (no that is NOT an invite..lol) last week asked me about a domain name and in 2 minutes I had a 2 word domain name that is very keyword rich and yes it makes sense.. Short and easy to remember..

    You just need creativity ...

  • Yo could stop wasting your time looking for .com's. Really, there are tons of two word non .com's out there that get huge search volume.

    I used to be like you, only looking for .com's. Then I got frustrated and started testing different things. Now in my ajax bar, I dont even select .com. (This is of course for exact keyword domains.)

    • But most people (when they heard a URL) think .com first before others, and I would really hate to create something like PostCardProfits.ca and lose some traffic to PostCardProfits.com

  • Lot of good two word domains are available. You might have to spend hours searching.

    Best two word I had is DailyGlobal.com

    If you consider other TLD best I had is tannery.me
  • It is hard to find a two word domain name thanks to domain name speculators, and
    it is especially hard to find two keyword domain names. Thus you usually need to add
    a third word such as KW1KW2info.com, KW1KW2biz.com, FindKW1KW2info.com etc. or try to buy a domain name in the secondary market.

  • I dont care about people who type in keyword. com in their search bar. I only care about the people searching google for the keyword. I doubt 1/4 of the number of people who go to google to search, type in the keyword domain in the browser.

    Good luck with that strategy. If the majority of people did that, there would be no need for search engines.

    • Since you finally got my point, I am going to help you out a lot. Here is the secret, so dont tell anyone. The big secret is... most two word keyword phrases are not targeted enough.

      That kindergarten toy site, is one of my most heavily visited sites, but it doesnt make me a dime. However, my exact keyword domains that are three words plus, do really well. My best site has 5 words. It converts about 10% because it is so razily targeted. I get less visitors than I would a two word domain, but who cares about traffic? I care about "highly targeted" traffic.

      Think about it, the longer the phrase, the more targeted. Therefore, better conversions. Dont worry about the two word domains. Go for the three, four or five word domains, as long as they get good search volume. That is where the money is.
  • Two keyword domains (that actually make sense and apply to your niche) have become quite a rarity now. With Domainers picking up just about everything that looks like it has PR or some value of any kind, I think you'd have much better luck finding 3 and 4 word .com domains. Unless, of course, you're willing to pay a premium for some aged and expired domain...

  • You dont go to godaddy and use their search to see its available and expect it to still be available in a few hours.
    Is this just coincidence? Not.

    Clearly you won't get the most obvious domains. But they're still available.
  • Slim pickins for 2 word domains for sure...but they're out there...depends on the niche and keywords.

    Just a few days ago, I registered 6plr.com, put up a website, emailed my list, and made 15 sales in 36 hours.

    You just have to be creative and grab what you can as soon as you find it.

    Most of the domains I register now are 3 word, but they are all relevant keywords so that helps.

  • There are lots of two word domains just waiting to be claimed. One of my customers just paid me to find a domain name for her. I gave her about 40 choices. Of that, about 25 were two words, so they are out there.

    She ended up choosing a one word domain name that I found (it wasn't a real word, but a play on words, for example: hosting + technology = hostology. That wasn't the actual name, just an example of the style of word play used - hostology was taken or I would have bought it if she didn't).

    I also don't have a problem with using one hyphen. If it gives you the perfect keyword-keyword combination, it works great for ranking purposes. The knock against hyphens has always been that it's harder to pass on verbally, or people may forget the hyphen when they type it into their address bar, or it isn't user friendly, or it looks unprofessional.

    Hogwash! Sites are seldom passed on verbally. Even if they are, all else being equal don't you think keyword-keyword.com will do better in the search engines than keywordFillerword.com? Do you think you'll get enough verbal referrals to make up for the difference in SE ranking?

    Or will so many people mistype keyword-keyword.com, leaving out the hyphen, that you'll lose more traffic than you gained by having better search rankings?

    And if your keyword-keyword.com domain is on the first page of the search engines, do you really think enough people are going to look at the domain name and say to themselves, "Well, there's a hyphen in that domain. It looks unprofessional. I won't click it." that being on the first page won't more than make up for it.

    • That is one thing that gets me many forget about "Branding" and they focus on keywords, keywords, keywords... What many seem to also forget that even a keyword rich domain name can be outranked by a non keyword rich domain name.

      Personally I go more after branding myself and easy to remember names but of course I do not deal with any affiliate products either but even if I did I would probably still go after branding.

      Yes type in traffic matters, offline traffic matters, easy to remember matters, yes word of mouth matters... Many cases these matter a great deal more than search engine traffic.. If most of your traffic comes from the search engines then you are seriously leaving money on the table.

      I could see someone trying to remember to type in a 4 or 5 word domain name ...lol Trying to share those with friends over the phone or a group gathering or on the radio or other offline methods..

  • Forget two word domains!

    I just found a great one word domain for sale. It is:

    www.grefdis.com

    Not sure what it means, but it is one word!
  • u find em if search hard enough... u can go for a word similar like "dollars" rather than "dollar" in domain.. that ways its easier to find.

  • I do have a similar question on this, I was mooching around a few weeks ago and found a niche with 550,000 searches per month on google, but when I looked all the TLDs were gone and used, however they didn't seem to be doing anything similar to what I would use it for, they were simply having the usual 1-2 page site with an affiliate or redirect to a real world business where I could build up a real forum with real users...

    However, the extension available was .mobi, do people have a special aversion to using this or something?

    (I like forums by the way, for me they are the easiest thing to think about setting up as I have been involved with them for so long)

  • It wouldn't exactly work, I did consider it but the search term is absolute unfortunately.

    If people are looking for a moose they wouldn't be typing "meese" or "mooses" into google, well...maybe the second one :p

  • I just bought three REALLY good two word domains with niche keywords in the last month. There are plenty there if you just look.
