Christmas Eve Web Traffic

Today is probably my worst traffic day of the year, and looking at my stats from last year Christmas day traffic was even worse than Christmas eve.

Just to give you a bit of a background my site traffic comes mostly from the health/fitness/diet niche.

Is anyone else cringing at the lack of warm fingers on keyboards today?

Yes I also noticed the slow traffic today.

Well everyone is spending time with family and trying to stay away from computers or work today, so I think it will going back to normal in a day or two.

Anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday to you

Take off a few days and smell the roses. Or
if you have hills, go hiking. If you are near the ocean
go there and watch the waves come in.

Actually .... no. There are sometimes going to be things that take priority over Internet marketing and Christmas with families is one of those. My family is not here yet, or I wouldn't be typing this either.

Rejoice that people are taking a break from their computers today. Just think of the healing needed in those who have carpel tunnel syndrome or some such related problem because they labor too much on their key boards.

Yes Anthony in the diet niche there is a lot of money to be made in a week or two but being prepared (ranking well for key keywords) is the important part. Looking at my traffic year over year I probably doubled my regular traffic that first week of January and then kept most of the gains throughout the year.

And Robert you are very right. Tomorrow is all about family and I love it! I will take the next couple of days off and then refocus my energy

And Gautam I know it is Christmas in India already. Mery Christmas to you too!

Forget the stats for one day, especially today.

      Merry Christmas.....

Generally, people are finishing Christmas shopping, cooking, decorating the tree, wrapping up presents and are doing final preparations. They either host the family or travel to see the family, or spend time at home with the spouse and the kids.

Also, kids are out of school, so adults are busy with the kids.

This is not the time to get on a diet... people are indulging in good food and think oh well I'll start losing weight in the New Year.

People also make New Year resolutions; lose weight, work out more, quit smoking, get a new job etc. everything is put off till next year.

Also, many people are on vacation till mid-January and are away from the computers. If they have waited a whole year to visit their folks, they'll be sure to spend time with them and not on the computer.

One of my niches did extremely well Christmas eve. In fact it was the best single day of the year for me. As Christmas day is closing now I realized that I did 3 times the sales that I did yesterday.

Don't worry! This is normal. My average Thursday is about 175,000 pageviews, but Christmas Eve was only 115,000 down 35%! And unfortunately you won't see traffic pick back up until the week Jan 5-9

I agree, now is the time to be spending it with friends and family. I too have taken a few days off to hang with family since I have had to travel to see them.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and a Happy New Year to all in the WF! Now get off the darn computer and slam back a few glasses of eggnog with the family!
