Affiliate marketing - how comprehensive should my mini-sites be?

I'm a newbie just starting out in the world of affiliate marketing (actually IM in general).
I've read && researched a lot and feel like it's time for me to start taking action now.
However I'm a bit in doubt, and therefore hoping that you guys can help me out a bit.

The thing I'm unsure about concerns promoting clickbank products.

This is how I intend to do it:

1. pick a niche
1.5 seo/keyword research
2. find a clickbank product I want to promote
2.5 seo/keyword research
3. make a mini-site (ofc including affiliate links to clickbank product)
3.5 seo/keyword research
4. profit

Does this look about right to you?

One thing I'm in doubt about is the comprehensiveness of the mini-site. I know I have pretty much free rein on how I wanna do this, but what's recommended? How many pages - and which - should it have (like about, reviews, ???)
Should I include a blog?

Good advice is very welcome =)

You can get away with 3-5 pages. I would do this:

    Product is "widget"

Main page is an introduction to the product itself. What it does, etc.

2nd page history of "widget" - ie: who created the widget and what credibility can you give to them

3rd page stories or testimonials of those who have used widget. Get real feedback and permission to do this - don't just make it up

4th page - my own experiences with widget and how it made my life better

5th page - widget bonus of some kind. Perhaps something secret I know about using widget or something to help you get more out of using widget. You'll have to sign up for this or download something.

Get the mini site up first, and then by all means if you want to blog more about widget then go for it. Blog about said widget in the news, etc. and look to work on those long tail keywords.

Hard to be more clear without knowing what the product is exactly, but maybe this gives you some ideas of what to focus on with those pages.

I would just add that it's best to go for long-tail keyword phrases
and optimize your pages as much as possible for those keywords.
Just follow standard on-site optimization rules. Make your pages
without a lot of graphics, simple, fast-loading pages with your
main text starting as high as possible on the page.

Then use those same keyword phrases as anchor text when doing
      link building.

      No links :)

3rd page) Should I get the testimonials from the vendor (like use the same as on the pitch page) or is there some other way?

4th page) Should I buy 'widget' myself? Or contact the vendor asking for a free copy (perhaps I should wait with doing this until I have some more sites under my belt to show as reference?) ??

5th page) If I offer some sort of material as a bonus (say a small ebook for example) I would have to create this myself right (as in, it doesn't have anything to do with the vendor)?

That is tricky - but I would suggest seeking out others who have used it. On forums for example, and contact them.

It is always best to buy and use widget yourself. And you would be surprised to find out - you can get review copies of widget a lot of times by contacting the vendor, asking a lot of questions, and telling them you are interested in promoting. Not all, but for some - especially new products looking for affiliates.

There could be something you can add to make widget better, or something that compliments it nicely. You can create it - OR you can find some plr that you can put your name on and spiffy up as a giveaway. Or maybe when you use widget you discover something no one else did about it that you can share.

It is always easier to sell something you have actually used and experienced. And that you whole heartedly endorse.

And do take the additional info up top of a TOS page, etc.

I think having these pages is good in addition to the main content pages: Contact, Privacy Policy, Terms of use, About, Sitemap.
