If you had a website ranking for the same keyword as a blog which would outrank the other if both use all the proper SEO and had exact amount, type, of backlinks?

My guess would be that they would be side by side, if they have the same amount of backlinks/same type of backlinks. I have seen some blogger blogs rank #1 on google for keywords with competition over 100m, and they still rank on the first pages today.

I think the blogs would do best. I think Google would give more attention to something that is build on one of their platforms, especially if all the other factors are the same.

The reason that Google appears to be in love with blogs isn't
because blogs offer a platform that's special, but because
blogs tend to get updated more frequently.

The reason search engines love blogs is because of the constant change in unique content. Your showing you're an authority in the subject.

Glenn,

I do agree with that, but even when creating a "static" site on a blog platform, and then have the same SEO done as with a static site, I think the one on the blog platform would do best. But as I said, that's my idea.

Off course, if it's a regular blog that is frequently updated it's not difficult to guess which one will get more "love" of the search engines.

Just my two cents.

I would have to say Blogger. Not because it's owned by Google but because it has been established longer, has a great page rank and has thousands and thousands of pages indexed.

Now, if the standard website has a keyword targeted domain and has some history with lots of page indexed, I don't know. I might consider it a tie. But that's just me.

At least with a standard website, you could sell it if you wanted. With a blogger site, you can't.

Not all blogger blogs are created for 'make money online', nor are all
websites. To do a fair test, you'd need to search on many keywords,
perhaps 100's before you can draw a definate conclusion.

You misunderstood what I was getting at. The answer to the question lies on a site, a Blogger blog, within the first page of results of that search. The owner of the blog in question has asked me not to link to it directly from here.
