Any Wordpress Gurus can help with this question?

I found that Wordpress.com recieves a bit of organic traffic easily.

If you set up a Wordpress.org blog - will this recieve the same sort of natural traffic?

or

Because you are hosting it on another server - will you have to drive traffic like a normal website?

  • Wordpress.org blog? I haven't heard of that one before. Wordpress.com is where all of the blogs are. The only thing the .org site contains is the plugins, themes, etc.

I have noticed that you have to work a lot harder for SEO when your blog isn't hosted by wordpress.com. If you have a blog on wordpress.com and a blog on your own domain... it will be more difficult for SEO for the self hosted blog, because of the fact that your wordpress.com blog is getting some ranking from all the SEO that all the blogs on the wordpress.com are doing.

In the end though, you will want to avoid having wordpress host your blog at all. If you want affiliate links, wordpress will shut your blog down. Affiliate links are not allowed according to their TOS. They consider it to be a commercial venture.

I have experienced this first hand. This is not an enjoyable experience. I had to start from scratch. It set me back months on SEO I had already done for my wordpress.com blog. So the best thing to do is to get your own hosting account and install wordpress on it.

    • Thanks - That's what I meant - install it on a hosting account.

So it looks as though the amount of work required to drive traffic to it is like any other website.

(Where as the .com blogs get a bit of traffic easily?)

  • Yeah it does Dennis

    Thanks for your help.

I might be better off just using a Blogger Blog or just forgetting blogging and stick to websites.

    • You are still at the mercy of Blogger's TOS as well. It is best to use Wordpress on your own hosting account. For one thing it is more professinal to have domain.com and another is you can do a lot more with Wordpress on your own domain. Besides Wordpress has a number of SEO plugins that will make a lot of the onpage SEO a breeze.

There is no reason why you can't have a PR2 blog within the span of a few months. It could be even higher than that depending on how much off page SEO you do.
  • Right - I see.

I was just looking at blogger - but the Wordpress Layouts do look better.

Will have to consider a new domain and a dedicated Wordpress blog.

    Thanks for all your advice.

    Much appreciated.
