Preselling affiliate products to my newsletter list

Hi everybody,

I'm new to the forum and wanted to know if you guys had any tips you wouldn't mind sharing with me.

I have a list of about 1,500 people in the muscle building niche and I wanted to know what is the best way to promote affiliate products to them.

I've been reading alot about affiliate marketing and the #1 thing I hear is that I need to "pre-sell" them on the affiliate products rather then "sell" them.

It seems as though I simply need to position myself as the expert and make recommendations on what will help them solve their problem and reach their goals.

I also know product reviews is another great way to pre-sell.

My intent is to create a newsletter series that makes affiliate commissions for me and all I need to do is drive as many people to my newsletter list.

I have no problem selling my own products that I create but when it comes to promoting other people's products I have a hard time. I think it's because I try to "hard" sell them which is probably not the best way to go about it instead of preselling or "recommending" the product to them .

I think I'm in the right direction, but any tips on preselling / promoting affiliate products to my newsletter list would be awesome.

Thanks,

Rich

    Rich,

What works best for me is to purchase the product and make sure both the product and the sales/customer service experience are excellent.

Then I tell the people on my list about my experience, using plain words (not hypey).

If I got a specific result, I tell them what the result was and let them know it might not be the same for them, but they should check it out if they've been searching for a solution to (insert problem).

Also let them know if they purchase through your link, you will receive a commission because you liked the product/company/experience so much that you signed up as their affiliate.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Rich!

Think of a problem that your listmembers want solved.

Then present a solution that they can do on their own for free.

Next, present the paid solution that will save them time and effort.

I hope that helps boost your affiliate commissions. :-)

    Kind regards,

Preselling involves a lot of psychological elements, but here's a few tips:

    1. Provide a ton of authoritative content upfront
    2. Drive home a major problem (rub salt in the wounds)
    3. Explain a hard way to solve the problem for free
    4. Present an easy way to solve the problem
    5. Tell them about a product which makes the problem go away even easier

That is of course, a very basic explanation. You could write an entire book on Preselling (and I actually have!). It has a lot to do with sales psychology, but the basic premise is to be as subtle as possible, and let your audience make up their own mind first.

As long as they are experiencing a problem or pain and you can show them that the product solves it, then that's all you need to do.

It's not always easy, because like anything, the devil is in the detail. But if you follow this idea that you're trying to help a friend, and not sell a product like a car salesman would, then you can't really go wrong.

It also depends on your list. If they know, like and trust you already then half the battle is won. If they don't, or you're not sure, then you need to connect with them personally...

Do YouTube videos, audio lessons, articles, free content galore...until they know, like, BELIEVE and trust you when you tell them what to buy.

Of course, that means you need to recommend a product which is truly worthwhile...otherwise all your hard work up until this point is a total waste of time (and you could get a bad rep online if your list likes to talk in communities about you)

    Especially number 3 - 5.

I already create alot of authoritative content [CHECK].
I already have a good relationship with my list [CHECK].
I already know what their main problems and frustrations are (through surveys) [CHECK]
I already know how to agitate those problems. [CHECK]

So i think I'm on the right track as far as you guys have shared with me.

I think the main thing for me is changing my mindset to remember that I'm "helping a friend" and making recommendations that'll help them solve a specific problem and letting them make up their OWN mind while NOT being hypey.

Awesome tips guys, I'm definitely going to have to bookmark this thread because I can see where I've went wrong in the past and I know how to correct it.

If anyone has any more tips I'll be glad to hear 'em.

Thanks again for sharing your tips, this is an awesome forum.
