The power of getting on with it....

Guys,

I decided to stay clear of forums for a day and see what I can do in a solid day of IM.

I work full time, today is a public holiday in the UK so I have the first chance for a while to just work a full day on IM.

This is what I achieved:

  • Looked at a niche I have been thinking about entering for a while. My aim is to set up a site that will help me test the market to see if it is worth writing an ebook.
  • Did keyword research on Google and WordTracker to see which keyword would be best for domain name
  • Chose and registered domain name on NameCheap and instantly the nameservers worked so I could get to work!
  • Set up a blog using wordpress and the headway plugin for my niche.
  • Wrote a 6 page report from scratch 100% original which is the carrot in order to get people to sign up to a mailing list.
  • Set up a mailing list in aweber that sends out a report for free.
  • Designed a cover image for the site so the ebook looks a bit more "tangable" and to attact the reader to download.
  • Wrote a 500 word article on the blog for a common keyword on a hot topic within the niche, which I will promote tomorrow.
  • Finished off the blog design to what I think would attract visitor to sign up, but without being to "squeezy"!
  • Promoted the site to a forum in the niche ... will do a lot more promo work over the next few days but need my EZA account to be reviewed, plus I've done my days work now!
So I did all that, and not made a dollar, but it is a test for the niche I am interested in. If I get a lot of interest I will create a full 60 page eBook and then sell it. There is zero competition in the niche, and reasonable demand and interest, so I am very excitied!

All in a days work!

Why am I posting this? To hopefully motivate people. I may not make a dime but I have really enjoyed doing this and I am very proud. It is a niche I really care about which I think makes all the difference.

And the thing is, some people will spend a day just contemplating ONE of those tasks before executing it, this my friends, is a perfect example of a hard days work. A work ethic like this will take you places.

Think of how much more you could have gotten done if you hadn't started this thread! LOL I'm totally kidding. Thanks for the inspiration. I spend way too much time in here, but I can't help it. I'm an addict.

Yes, in order to get work done you need to close all outside playthings and do WORK.

    I love it.

The only reason I'm on the forums today is I'm waiting on a support ticket from my host, since I can't do diddly squat until they get back to me about these damn scripts and why the server won't let me make them work.

    WORK!

I love that word. Most people hate the hell out of it and are trying to escape it with IM, but thats not going to happen.

Yesterday, during a few hours of working, I signed up with 54 article sites, 15 social bookmarking sites, 20 video sites, and 25 press release sites.

Then I began installing the scripts I'm currently having trouble with.

But before I started the troubles, I wrote an article for an affiliate link of mine, and then submitted it to the 54 directories.

Not sure if anythings happened yet, it was more of something to just make sure the accounts were valid and working, lol.

But you know, its the small things in IM that grow into large things.

Do a lot of small things in a day, and you'll feel like you've accomplished something large.

And that, my friends, is a wonderful feeling.

      Thanks guys

I normally suffer from the "dread" factor.

I.e. "oh no not another wordpress install" "oh no not another aweber sequence" "do I have to do that again!"

Often these things takes seconds, more time spent dreading the thing than it would take to do it

Congratulations, that's an extremely productive day Imagine if you could duplicate that level of effort 5 days a week - the possibilities are endless. That's what I intend to do starting on Monday, when I'm officially back from my self imposed Christmas break. I'm going to try and work a minimum 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. The best part? I can't wait

    You know what?

When I have a spare day (usually during festive periods!), I LOVE setting up a list of things I want to do and weirdly, I find myself doing more than I ever would in a normal day!

I think it has a lot to do with making me feel like it's a "play day" at the computer, and setting up blogs and social network sites isn't "work", but more of an adventure.

It's almost like you can take the pressure off because theoretically, you're on holiday and not really working. So anything you actually do, becomes more of an experiment or fun test.

I dunno, it sounds weird, but I guess it's about mindset. If you approach your day with a more playful and experimental nature, it seems less like work and more and more fun.

I love this business, but as soon as I start treating it like a grind in the office, is when it becomes like a job...and that's what I escaped from nearly 2 years ago, so screw that!

I always found it is amazing what you can do by unplugging from the internet so you don't get distracted in what I call the "ADD Loop" Checking email..checking Twitter, checking Warrior forum, checking IMs...over and over again.

Turning off the cellphone helps too...

Update - the niche site is now getting about 20 visitors a day, and got my first genuine email subscriber (the other 4 were me testing out email addresses ... and my mum!!). My mum found my site without me telling her, not sure how I need to find out how, she may have just searched my name or something.

I have only written 4 articles, need to get more done. Need to follow my own advice again and have a big session, I reckon I could get 2-3 good articles written per hour, so that would be 16-24 in a day. Although i may slow down as I run out of experience knowledge and have to move into research.

A micro-tip from me to any newbies - again and again - the power of posting useful information onto popular forums cannot be underestimated. And I am not talking about spamming Warrior either. A simple "Yeah I understand .... Advice .... I found this useful ... http://" type post can work wonders :-). In once niche I got 1000 visitors in 2 days with such a post ;-) but I did create something exceptional in that niche.

I agree that forums can be addictive. For me its not just marketing forums though, football and tech forums are also big pulls! Oh well, you only live once.

One thing you can do is to manage your time y "allowing" yourself one hour a day just to surf forums as you want, then you don't feel so guilty I find, and are more productive in the rest of the day.

Great post, I love it! I often spend time contemplating doing something, rather than just getting on and doing it, as you've so aptly illustrated! The fears and apprehension that we build in our heads are very often nothing more than imaginary ghosts that dissipate the moment we actually do the task at hand! It also illustrates what a time-sapper this forum is, and while I've learned a lot from here sometimes we just have to disconnect and be productive in our IM endeavors.

I think that multi-tabbed browsers like Firefox have given me ADD...lol. Seriously, sometimes it's like flipping channels on the television when you've got 20 or more tabs tempting you to click on them. Fortunately, one of my New Year resolutions is to use a Firefox add-on (Leech Block) that will prevent me from surfing to any and all non-productive sites that I specify. I am already seeing results, as I'm kind of banning myself from here during the day, and I was able to get over 5 hours of solid work done as a result!
