Is it legal to use GMail as an 'autoresponder'?

I'm working on a small project (not really intended for $profits) where I want a smallish list, for a newsletter every day. But the newsletter will consist mostly of content from the subscribers and I want to make it where they can simply "Reply" to the GMail and since it's a smallish subscriber base, I'm going to try and make it where everyone can know one another easily (but without having to start anything such as a forum, because most of these people would be from the same big forums in this niche so there's a chance they've met once or twice).

I'm pretty sure I want to use GMail for this, but my only worry is that it isn't all legal. How would I send an opt-in thing? Would it be OK if the way they signed up was to email the GMail first saying for ex. "Please subscribe me to this newsletter" and then put on the 'list'?

Thanks for your help in advance, I don't know when I'll be able to reply. I will check off and on throughout the days though.

    Hi,

Not sure why it wouldn't be legal. Just read Gmail's TOS. I don't believe (from last time I read it), that they had anything to that effect. As long as you are not outright spamming, you should be ok.

      Johnathan is absolutely right.

I been using gmail without any issues and Johnathan is also right in saying it is not in their TOS

I just read it over again.

        Hey,

I think they only issue you may want to make sure you take care of is instructions on how the subscriper can opt out. I think if you put instructions on every email then you should be fine. Just read the TOS like mentioned above and give information to opt out and you should be fine.
