Need help unloading 225 pounds of Marketing & Internet Marketing books before midnight December 31st

I'm making a dramatic switch in 2010 to be clutter-free. Not
just on my desktop (folders and files scattered everywhere!)
but also in my physical world around me.

In my office I had three nice hardwood desks and three book
cases filled with business, marketing, and Internet marketing
books.

In the two closets in my office, each shelf is filled with more
Internet marketing and marketing books. I figure there's around
300 books, and with an average book weighing around 12 oz.
there's an extra 225 pounds of clutter I need to clear.

All of my office furniture is being listed on Craigslist. Some
courses that I've gone through that I wont touch again will
go on eBay or donated. My plan is to get one new desk -
one without drawers and one where I have to stand.

Now this leads me to the 300+ marketing and Internet Marketing
books I'm faced with unloading.

What do you guys suggest?

1. Donate them to the local library and get a tax write off?

2. Sell them at Books-A-Million (they pay like $0.25 or $0.50/book)

3. Have a bonfire in the backyard

4. Sell them on Amazon and drive myself or my wife crazy making
endless postoffice runs.

5. Post an ad on Craigslist and say, 300+ free business books. Must
pick up yourself. Must carry yourself. Must take all.

6. Any other creative ideas on what I can do to unload all these books?

Well, since your criteria seems to be not selling the
books for anywhere near what you would be able to
get for them if you went to the trouble of listing them
on Amazon, any of your ideas might work.

A local bookseller who lists on Amazon would no doubt
scoop up your books for a buck a piece or something,
and earn 5-10 times his investment selling them off.

Another cool idea would be to list them on Bookmooch
and more or less trade them for other books you want.

Actually, one that simply put them on a kijiji.com. you'll probably get a better price than $.50 per book, and at least to be or to help someone else that needs it.plus, usually people will come to your house to pick it up.

Another idea is to find someone who lists stuff on eBay for others and let them take the lot of them. Some of these folks charge as much as 35% of the final price of the item but if you can make money and get them out of the house at the same time maybe it will work...

Yeah, good ideas. I'm not really interested in making $$ from
these. I already have over the years based on what I've learned
    from them

Would rather get some 'good karma' for 2010. Maybe I'll just
    post on CL or kijiji.

Although a bonfire is so tempting...

You have 300 books so you can choose a particular number and then unload. You can give 50 books for charity, 50 books for books-a-million, 50 books @amazon, 50 books via craiglist, 50 bookmooch and 50 to donate on wishuponahero site. This is perfect balance IMO. Charity and Library donation is much faster and you'll get some satisfaction as well.

I'd list them on Amazon, grit my teeth and do the post office runs. (I'm doing it at the moment and it's not exactly killin me lol)

Those are good ideas about donating proceeds to charity.
Hmmm... I wonder if there is anything like a small biz
or young entrepreneurs foundation/charity that helps kids
get started with their own biz? Would be cool to somehow
get the books over to them - if there is such a thing locally.

Donating is a great idea. Check out your local chapter of S.C.O.R.E., they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

I would donate them to a homeless shelter. You'd get a tax write off, plus you just might help someone get out of a miserable life. A friend of mine was in a shelter years ago when he read some business book they had on the shelf, and he managed to turn his life around and become a success because of the inspiration he got from it. Who knows, your generosity might change a life.

The University of Houston has the Small Business Development Center. You might check with them.

As someone suggested, S.C.O.R.E. would be a good option.

It would be great if you could find a college that teaches internet marketing as a business and donate it to the program library. I don't think the Lonestar college system does that, at least from what I've seen in the class offerings.

Hehe I love the WSO idea... maybe sell them by the box

Another one to check out is Powell's Books - Used, New, and Out of Print - We Buy and Sell - they'll buy some used books back (in good condition) and either give you money (deposited to paypal acct) or store credit (slightly more money, but must use at their store).

It's been hit and miss with me as far as what they take, and if you go the store credit route - their prices tend to be higher than amazon, but I always figured - I'm getting rid of stuff I don't want, and usually getting something I do want for free/cheap in return.

Good luck with your resolution and happy 2010!

Donating them to charity means they'd most likely be sold for far less than they are worth. If you want to raise money for charity, listing them here and letting warriors bid on them would probably raise more money, which you could then donate to charity. Then you could donate any that don't sell to a library or charity. If you're just going to donate them, I'm a big proponent of libraries because many can benefit rather than just one person.

Why not make a Warrior Library?

Post a list of books that you have, and if someone wants to "check one out" they pay the shipping to their house... when they're done reading it, they post it in a "library thread" and someone else can "check it out" from them.

Great way to spread the wealth within the community.

List the books on a web page or here. Ship them FREE
to any Warrior who asks for a title - and insert a catalog/
flyer for your paid products in each.

Should cover your shipping costs - as well as get you
enormous goodwill among a community of marketers who
will actually USE the valuable content in your books!

    Happy New Year!

    All success

I say donate them to local library and get the tax right off. not sure its worth the time and effort to sell them as you most likely wont get much money from them.

Run contests on your blog/newsletter and offer them as prizes. That will build karma (but i think doing something with the intent of karma results in the opposite) , get you links, etc.

Hey! I see you're in Houston, I'm in Houston too! (Humble) Can I have them?

    Just kidding!

But seriously, I am curious just what books you have. Also, you might want to make an inventory of them and consider taking the list of what you have to a used book store. Perhaps there are books you WOULD like to have that are at a used bookstore near you. Then you can trade them in to the used bookstore and get something in return. Or you can sell them flat out to the bookstore for either cash, or even higher value for trade credit at the bookstore.

Try calling your local Half Price Books and see what they say. Or, if you are near Humble, there is a used bookstore on the 1960 Business Road diagonally across from the post office.

One more thing. There is one book I am looking for that, if you have it, I will drive to you and buy you a nice dinner in exchange for the book. It's by a guy named Toby Crabel.

By the way, about that post office run you mentioned earlier. Depending on where you are located, the post office just might come to you! You put the book in your mailbox and lift the flag and when the letter carrier comes they take your boxed book with them when they empty the mailbox before inserting your mail. (If you're worried about theft like I once was then you can slip a note inside the mailbox when you lift the flag, and the note tells them the package is on the steps or @ the door or behind wherever and they will go and get it if it's in the front yard.) As for the inconvenience? The only inconvenience I can think of is going to Sam's Club to get a shipping scale. Once you know how much the package weighs, you can go to either usps.com or endicia.com and print the label complete with postage on the label. Then it's just tape label to package, insert package into mailbox, and mail carrier picks up package. If you have enough of them then you can call and have them come to you for a pickup.

I would hold a contest of some sort. Why throw them away? You could use them for a number of marketing purposes.
