Just wanted to drop a post here & see who thought what.

For some background:
I've had my MCSE and spent quite a bit of time working I.S. for different corporations. I've spent quite a bit of time working with windows, linux and unix machines as well. Currently my house has 3 Linux machines, 3 Windows boxes and an Xbox.

What working with Linux and Windows has taught me is this: Windows is a fat bloated pig that attracts viruses, infuriating headaches, and Windows 'updates' by default. It's destined to completely fill your hard drive & not maintain it's own registry so that machine performance will degrade over time, until one day it just won't run.

What's even more nuts is that people pay for that opportunity.

Anyway, this post isn't really about me bashing Windows. What I want to know is why the home PC world is dominated by Windows machines when free (and arguably better) options are available. The difficulty in running a Linux box is comparable to operating a Mac, so I don't think it's a difficulty thing.

This may be old-hat to some people, but I think I may have noticed a new 'fact of life' that goes something like this: You can sell a sub-par product in the face of a well functioning free one with the correct marketing.

What do you think?
