Hey guys, those of you that may be in the market for DNS, its on sale at TigerDirect for $29.99 until Dec 31, 2009. I tried this program on the advice from the WF and it saves me a lot of time because I'm a "hunt and peck" typist. Go to this link. (its not an affiliate link).

It's a great program if you train it a couple of times.

However, version 10.0 will NOT run in 64 bit mode, and if I read the info from Nuance correctly it won't run in Windows 7 either.

There is a version 10.1 that does run in 64 bit mode (I am using it) and will run in Win 7.

If you need 10.1 make sure what you are being offered from Tiger is in fact 10.1 and not the now "older" 10.0.

I was told you can buy the 10.0 and get the free upgrade to 10.1 on Nuance's web site. Your Key Code (License) from 10.0 works on 10.1.

I love the program and use it regularly. This is an excellent find, though. However, keep in mind the compatibility issues that Don mentioned above if you plan to purchase.

OK, this is embarrassing, but does anyone know of a way to buy DNS and download it instead of installing from CD/DVD? I can't get either my CD tray or my DVD tray to open on my old Sony computer. LOL There's a Civilization III disc in one of them from about 2005. I see it every time I open My Computer. Jeez, I'm lame, I know. Any way to get DNS without needing the physical product to install?

      John,

There might be a way to open your trays. If you see a small hole just
under the tray, you can insert a straightened paper clip, and push the
trays open. You see, there's a lever behind the hole for such an occasion.

If you have a valid license key, you can download the full product from the nuance.com website.

I read do through the reviews on TigerDirect and they are charging $19.95 for shipping, so you can get it a Best Buy with current $50 mail-in rebate and get it for same price without the wait. The only reason I know is because I actually just bought it today at Best Buy.

The package on the Standard 10 does say "Also runs on Vista 64-Bit PCs" so maybe they solved the problems Don is talking about.

If you go to the Nuance site you can download the 10.1 version in it's entirety. You will just need an activation code that you take off off your purchased hard copy. (At least the download link was there a few months ago. Too lazy to look again tonight)

The Vista built in program is complete rubbish. You are the 1st person out of 2,387,698 reviews I have read.

I love DNS, and would recommend it to anyone who either can't type or can't be bothered. You do get funny looks though when you are talking into your PC...

On the other hand, without DNS, there s no way that I'd have been able to write just short of 1000 e-books in the past three years, so yo can maybe understand my enthusiasm.

If you get it even at full price, it's a bargain but at this level - just do it...

Oh, how I love Dragon Naturally Speaking.
As a mum of 3 VERY young girls, my IM business wouldn't be at the stage it is without DNS, nor would my second novel for that matter!
An essential tool to get those thoughts out of your head and on to the screen &/or paper.

      Cheers,

Has anyone used DNS for transcribing interviews - i.e., when you have two different voices? If so, that would be a great deal more effective than having to outsource this type of job.

    I'm impatiently awaiting your response(s)

Not good with 2 voices. It needs to be trained for simply one voice. 2 will throw it off. But I'm sure it'll still beat typing everything out even if you get 50% right.

I found DNS to work perfectly. Once you start learning the voice commands for functions whilst writing, you'll find you can almost bin the keyboard.

It's ironic but it took me 3 weeks of tapping enter before I said "New line" in a sentence and realized it had voice commands at all LOL

I've never been keen on reading manuals, I'm more a try it and see type of person.

I've got DNS 6.0 on an old pc, 9.0 on my lap top, and 10.0 on my desktop. I'm in love with all 3 of them. Each version seemed to take less training than the previous one. When you can type 175 - 225 wpm with just your voice you can crank out an e-book in one day, multiple articles in a day, respond to customer support e-mails / tickets, etc. withou doing damage to your wrist, ligaments, or risk getting carpul tunnel syndrome.

Some critics say it's not that great because you have to go back and edit your work. I find that a silly criticism because you're suppossed to do that anyway. I've bought DNS for everyone on my staff and it's increased our office productivity dramatically. I bought the last version at Fry's Electronics. I remember when I bought version 5.0 super cheap on eBay a few years ago.

Lastly, the Vista voice recognition program is OK, but it doesn't hold a candlestick compared to DNS. DNS simply rocks!

I purchased an older version - 9 I think, and it was lame, and never worked. I have a clear NZ accent, and was not impressed.

That was the third time I purchased it, does it REALLY work this time?
