hey guys, this is a post espeically for Newbies who don't know much about Marketing.

i just got an email from a subscriber of mine today who said:

" you just sent me that to make a commission from me!"

And the thing is, it wasn't just a promo email i sent, it was a VIDEO of me giving some content first, and then i recommended another FREE video to check out, where i then used an affiliate link.

Well if you too have similar thoughts when a marketer sends you an email with an affiliate link then here is what i have to say

look

why complain that someone is getting a commission ?

that is how internet marketing works , especially AFFILIATE MARKETING

if you are a real marketer you will understand that we all
make commissions by recommending things to others...

That's how this works.

If you plan to make ANY money online then guess what ?

YOU will also make commissions by recommending
products to others.

(unless you soley just sell your own products)

If you don't like it then please QUIT internet marketing and BUSINESS rite now...

if you are going to whine and complain about that then
internet marketing and business is definitely not for you.

You deserve a Job

I suggest you give up now because you will see much
more of this 'people recommending products and
getting a commission from it'

What is affiliate marketing ? making money by recommending
other peoples products

Ok my Rant is over, just wanted to make this clear especially to NEWBIES

Thanks

Jani

I often have people asking me for my affiliate link, and I do the same with others too as I want to make sure someone gets a commission rather than me buy something they told me about without using an affiliate link.

This isn't a complicated situation and I don't think people are wrong to question why someone is using an affiliate link.

As long as you are adding value and delivering solid content when using an affiliate link then you just have to ignore that sort of email and move on. i.e. you can't please all of the people all of the time.

I definitely agree with Roy. Everyone is different and everyone responds differently. If you are adding quality service, products, etc., you can only account for yourself....If someone has something negative to say, move on...

I once had a guy whining about an email promotion and I just simply unsubscribed him from my list.

In the past, I may have responded back to him with my two cents worth.

But life has taught me that it is not worth it and I just moved on and know that he will miss out from all the great content that I offer.

        Next...

    Hi Jani,

As a matter of interest what sort of ratio do you use of just pure content e-mails to e-mails containing affiliate links?

    Cheers

      Good post Jani.

I completely agree with you. The subscribed to your list and if they are unhappy about the promotions then leave instead of B**ching about it.

You have never sent out an email, that I can remember, where you did not provide some quality content before even mentioning an affiliate link.

      Hi Martin

      well i usually say 1:4

meaning after every 4 peices of content, i send a promo.

But what i do often is mix up content with a promo

so i will send out a video with good content

and then refer them to an affiliate link at the end to get MORE
      FREE stuff!

i usually do this in the pre launch of a launch so they can get more FREE content, so its not seen as selling still...

Because i want to provide my subscribers as much value as i can

But as a marketer, we are all here to make money so its best to do both, but not seem like you JUST want to make money from your subscribers...

      hope that helps

I use something like "Yes I do receive a commission from this link and I make a lot of money doing so. This is a very lucrative niche and I would love to teach you how to make money." Use this to create another affiliate to help sell your product.
      Interesting , good idea

Jani, the trouble is there are an awful lot of people who think everything online should be free. There is a whole generation of young people who think it's fine to download music and movies without paying for them. They have no qualms about stealing software, heck, they'll even beg for it in forums.

Of course, these same people wouldn't think of working for someone else for free, but somehow they don't see how that equates to stealing digital products.

      Lol!

I love getting on peoples lists. If they have a good product to offer, I'll buy it. If they know how to run a successful email campaign, I study it. If they spam my box, I put them on a list and unsubscribe.... it's not hard to do.

There are those who want something for nothing. So they will either try to steal it or end up with a crappy product...

I never could grasp this idea of stealing music. I am in tune with the music industry and people don't realize the amount of hours these artists put in to create a CD as well as the astronomical cost to produce music and the amount of talented manpower needed.

It is very sickening, this me-me want it free mentality. I see it every day from young and old people.

As far as someone complaining about the list owner receiving a commission for their recommendation after providing valuable content, well, they have the same mentality as the music pirates.

I NEVER have a problem with someone making money off of me as long as I receive something valuable and helpful in return. As a matter of fact, I HOPE these people make money.

This scarcity mentality is what holds people down. There is plenty of money for everyone in this world and no one should complain about others getting their piece of the pie.

Isn't that what me are all after?

Internet has and is changing. A few years ago there was lots of stuff in particuarly information free. Its now moving onto the stage where money needs to be exchanged. There are still lots of free stuff, it just means digging deeper, spending more time searching and looking. Its all about enterprises making money out of it, quite distant the philosophy of Tim Berner-Lee (creator of WWW).
I should not grumble or act hypocritcally, I am striving to make an income from it. I guess it has allowed for the creation of new Industries and take existance to new heights. I am new to all this, WWW is still in its early stages with lots of opportunities.

Too many fish in the sea so to speak, don't worry about the few whom seem to want everything given to them for free.

I've had quite a number of people ask me for a free wine club membership in order to become an affiliate.....right.

These are the same people who end up quitting after a year and then blame it on someone else.

Their failure is down to themselves and the fact that they do not take action.

I can never understand why marketers complain about being marketed to. I've had the same type of email as well so I just do them a favour and unsubscribe them

I agree with Imran, these people will never make it unless the understand the whole ethos of marketing emails

It is perfectly fine to send you list a good product but at the same time, your own affiliate link. I have done it before.

In my product, on the back end I recommend some good and solid products and when these people buy from the link that I have provided them with, I earn a commission from that.

I don't think people are so much getting pissed at marketers making a commission recommending products...I think they are getting pissed at the predictability of it.

When I get an email that tells me I'm getting "free" content, I know one of 2 things is getting ready to happen.

      1. I'm going to have to opt-in to one of his friends lists
      2. The video is going to talk about the benefits - the solution is going to cost me $$$$

I think that pretty much anyone on any lists realizes that is the way it goes so, as soon as they see the email, they get defensive as they know even though you say "free" they know it is going to cost them somewhere along the line.

Some people just like to complain. I have or rather had some IMers who did this regardless of what the email was about. You know the sort, who said it has a spelling mistake, you tried to sell me, you ... well let me be negative because I am helping you.

I went into our autoresponder and hit delete from the account.

At the end of the year we fired clients, got rid of subscribers, followes on twitter, for one reason, they were negative and a drain on running a productive and profitable business.

Thanks for the great perspective to start off the year. I have a quick question for those who unsubscribe whiners.

Do you include any kind of "goodbye" message? Or do you just have your emails disappear without a trace from the complainers' inboxes?

People keep a list because they want to sell something to their list.

No one is going to send you free stuff all the time without selling you anything! That's a negative ROI.

Alternately, mail it to your entire list.

"I've had a few complaints that the link I sent for the last product was an affiliate link, and I would get paid a commission if you bought through it.
