So, How Long Did It Take You To Get Started?

You know, actually get the IM ball rolling?

For me, it took about six months. I pretty much lived on the warriorforum reading every piece of information I could find. What really kick started me was realizing that I had spent thousands of dollars in WSOs and didn't really have much to show for it. The problem was really my mindset. I seemed to think that just buying the WSO was going to mean cash would be pumped into my account. But, nothings that autopilot...yet.

Now, I am making around 100 a day, which I'm not really satisfied with, but it is so much better than where I was.

So, tell me when you finally started taking action and how long it took you to start seeing everything you had been learning pay off.

Cheers

When it comes to creating my own products or launching my own websites or promoting affiliate products, it honestly took me a good 5 years in the business for it to finally register in my mind how important it is to first find markets where people are already spending money. I tended to hang on to my pigheaded ideas of what "should" sell and making product for it instead of finding out what was already selling and make a better product for that market. Logic means nothing online.

    One month. Seriously.

In 2003-2004 I needed something to do and decided to test "Adsense". Read about it (unique content + links) and gave it a try. One month later I was rocking the house with some basic html sites (i created from scratch), top rankings in Google and some easy cash every month.

From that day on it's just business as usual

    Unique content + Links.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

I think I'm going to start heading down the adsense road very soon. I've always stuck to affiliate programs so it should be interesting. I wish I could have seen success that early, but the only thing that matters now is taking my current biz situation and improving it.

It's very important to discover somehow what you really enjoy doing. There are so many ways to make money online, but having to do what it takes to be successful in those areas could be hell for one person and heaven for another.

Like for Fernando, he discovered he liked working on his own websites. A lot of people don't or are incapable and have no interest in learning.

Some are drawn to having their primary focus on promoting affiliate products. Others need to be on-stage and in the public eye doing everything online just to get that next speaking gig.

Then there are those that want to produce their own products, whereas many of them shouldn't because they'll never complete their first project because they're just not the kind of person that accomplishes anything requiring time for completion.

Just wanted to make the point that it's not always about time-to-success but maybe the question should be re-stated as "how long did it take you to identify what you enjoyed doing AND started to make money?"

    Theres no 6 years option.

Seriously. I tried making money online for 5 years before even knowing about internet marketing. I spent all those years trying to develop the next facebook, or myspace.

Im now in my second year of internet marketing and am FINALLY getting somewhere.

I kind of took the same path as Ramone.

I also tried for almost 5 years making money online.

Years back i did quite a bit of programming coding yahoo protection products.

I basically built 3rd party chat clients so yahoo users wouldnt get booted off Yahoo Messenger.

But the only people buying from me were obviously users that used yahoo and my main form of advertising was in yahoo chat rooms.

I didnt know anything about advertising my websites or even knew how to get traffic to my website back then.

If i knew back then what i know now i might have done rather well.

I gave up on the programming aspect and just stuck with IM.

Im doing rather well now and im in my 4th year of marketing.

Wow, thanks for sharing man. At times I shake my head with what Ive done. I remember back in 2003 looking at Warrior Forums and thinking "affiliate marketing, ebooks....? what the hell are they talking about"

Id close the browser and go back to programming.

My worst story was building a web based calendar where I thought I would sell it to schools and universities for $1,000 a copy. No joke, 2 years later I was still at it. Major scope creep - It had to be perfect. In the end I gave up and didnt make one sale.

If only I used that time to do what I know now - Id be driving a lambo.

I don't understand waiting months or years to start something.
I jumped right in. I was studying something unrelated at the time, read about affiliate marketing and registered a few domains. Then I got a job I hated, spent all day there reading more about affiliate marketing, then quit my job and started building websites and creating services that would bring in fast income, such as forum posting (a big hit at the time), article writing etc.

There's no time to waste "waiting to get started". Just do it!

      Painful story...

I was one of those "it has to be perfect before I can do anything with it" people.

I still am with some things, but for the most part I've semi-broken out of that. However, it still delayed getting the ball rolling for about a year, sad to say.

Definitely don't make sure everything is perfect and get stuff out there. It can be perfect and completely planned out, but if you're the only one that's gunna see it, all the time in the world that you spend on it won't matter.
