I am just wondering how WF became famous and how it attracted too many members?

What do you think?

Promotion or just luck?

I think it has attracted lots of members because it is simply a fantastic resource!

The best way I think to get a forum going is to have a readership with a blog which I mean a couple thousand people following your blog or if you have a nice membership site.

But the forums that I have seen take off are ones that were created from blogs I have followed. They had a ton of fans so to speak and when the forum was open everyone couldnt wait to get onboard and it would grow quickly since all the followers did the initial postings.

Have a blog like this is also a great way to create a membership site. Thats why it is key to be personal to your blog readers cause the more they like and follow/trust you the more they are going to spend on your products. Or join other things you have created.

    Just my 2 Cents.

Well there are many different ways to gain traffic but most people turn away if your forum is empty.

I believe there are many services out there that will post on your forum for a cost but I am not sure if this works well.

Another way of gaining traffic would be bum marketing method by writing articles and in your signature put a good tag line attracting people to the forum.

Try using yahoo answers and other social areas. What are you thinking of building a forum around? I could help better if I knew the topic. You can pm if you dont want to mention it here to everyone.
