Hey Guys

My daughter got an iPod Nano from Santa and she loves it more than life itself.

I've never been much into music and video online so my first foray into it was through iTunes so she could have the music she wanted downloaded to her iPod.

Is it just me or is that whole thing cumbersome, painful and slow?

Of course that set me thinking

What alternatives are out there? I'd be failing in my duties as an Internet Marketer if I didn't at least check them out!

Cheers,

Neil

    Yes...

There are a few alternatives out there, Neil...

Here's a few to get you started:

Banshee <- source code is even available for ..cough.. "personalisation"

    Floola <- Cross-compatible across Windows, Mac/Linux etc..

GTKpod <- Limited features, but basic iPod sync with tracks, artwork and adding tunes etc to your device(s)

MediaMonkey <- Ummm.. what can I say.. my personal fave, and a beast of a gadgy. We love this

Just a few that we looked into as we were developing some stuff for iPod/iPhone

Hope this helps a little, there are MANY more out there if you dig around a little

    Peace

      Thanks Jay.

This is one of these things where it would be relatively easy to set the thing up but you could end up with a bad dose of the same "ghost town" syndrome as a forum with no posts.

Maybe indie bands could sell their music online with a bit of software and Twitter!

      TweetYourMusic.com is available.

There's an idea for someone who doesn't know where to start

      Cheers,

I use Amazon quite a bit, and for the hard to find albums/songs, I find it at Lala - Where music plays then download it from there. They let you listen to the album and/or song in full before you download it.

WORD OF WARNING: All of these places only allow one download of the album/song, then they will make you purchase it again if you want it again. Therefore, make sure she backs up the album after she downloads it. <-- I found out the hard way after I lost all of my music.

    • I have helped numerous independent artists get their music into the Itunes store. They have all told me it was the easiest way for them to sell their music online and have brought them new fans.
The key is they still have to promote themselves. When bands I have helped do gigs they always sell cds (with the url of the website written on the cd), and remind the audience of their web sites. You Tube has also played a large role in these bands garnering more fans.
      Just my two cents,

      Ben
