Please give me your opinion on this domain

Hello all,

First off, I would like to preface this by saying that parts of this may sound self promotional but it really isn't - my site isn't even up yet! I want your opinion on the domain name vs what this site will focus on. I feel that in order to give me your best opinion you will need a basic understanding of who I am and what this site will be, so I apologize in advance for the huge post.

Me: I have been affiliate marketing for about 5 years and I have had (what I consider to be) good success. When I concentrate on it, I make around 5k a month - which I realize is just a drop in the bucket to some but its success to me! Doesn't mean I plan to stop here though, or give up, I believe learning never stops! Since I have been concentrating on developing content for my site instead of my marketing - I am not making that much at this current time, however.

Site: I get a lot of friends and family asking for my advice and then their friends and so forth which has developed into a small coaching business on the side. I decided to make a (free) blog of advice on what I have done to succeed (and fail). My aim is to help others succeed so we can all assist in one anothers growth. I will release paid products on occasion (so I guess it isn't entirely altruistic!) but the main point is a blog with free advice and tutorials.

So, I have been brainstorming domains and I decided instead of going for the whole keyword rich SEO optimized domain, I want something more unique, catchy and memorable. The problem with this, is I am afraid the title may create confusion since the address doesn't automatically state what the site offers, like so many sites do.

I bought this domain name on a whim because I thought it was catchy - but I have doubts about it. It is TheAdchemist.com - I was thinking a nice caption would be "The ingredients you need for a successful advertising and marketing formula" One of the reasons I have doubts is because while the site touches "advertising" via information on Adwords, writing ads, etc. It also deals heavily with marketing...so the name may be confusing :/

So after my long explanation would you please tell me what you think? Should I go back to the domain name drawing board - or go with this?

OK so this is a question I'm also struggling with all the time

There's two ways to look at domains --

    1. Yet another tool (important one at that) to rank for the keywords you care about
    2. A tool for branding yourself.
As you'll see, I chose to go with the branding (see my sig link).

I think that for general advice domains you want to concentrate on branding. If you're promoting a specific product, you want all the help you can get so then you want to have a keyword rich domain.

    HTH.

No, just "adchemist.com" is taken unfortunately - though I kinda thought it sounded better with "the" in this case.

And yes, I am looking more into the branding aspect of a unique domain name. Unfortunately RebeccaRapp.com was taken - so was Rrapp.com - I thought of ThatsARapp.com but of course - taken so annoying.

Try the .net and .org ones. Dot.org ranks really well nowadays.

I used to be a fan of .com as well and most people still are and for a reason. The main site we have now is actually .info and we wanted info domain from the start and we are more than happy with the outcome and how the site is performing. If your site is going to be a 95% informational then .info is very suitable and it will give you more options to choose from.

"Chemist" is not a common term in the USA, where it is called "Pharmacy" or "Drug Store". If you're marketing to this continent, you may want to choose a different term.

A chemist is more of an occupation than a store, but in the USA they are probably called "pharmacist"..

I'm not American, so am not an expert on this topic, verify with the experts!

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

Here's what you do. Go to Browser Update Page (no affiliate link! ) and just start brainstorming in the "check available" box there.

      Most definitely!

I don't really like "chemist" though, and think that another word should replace it.

At this point, I would continue brainstorming. You may find something that you like even more, especially from the suggestions offered in this thread. Just my opinion.

I keep misreading it as "the alchemist" and "head chemist" which aren't the right sites. Have you looked at "advertising chemist"?

And webwriter, she's not talking about "chemist" in the same sense you're thinking, but in the scientific sense - and for someone who's thinking in terms of Claude C. Hopkins classic book Scientific Advertising, that's not a big stretch.

I love theadchemist domain name. I think that's really cool. I just got email from dan kennedy . He has a funnel created which feels like you are in hospital or taking checkup. lol. However, I will say dont worry too much about it. Just go for it. At the end of day, much as would like it to be otherwise, google don't rule the world!

Would it really cost you much to get a name or three of the kind you like, build up a brand name and dominate the market in that field?

The Ad Chemist I agree would be brilliant, it is how you market it which is the important step from here on in.

I don't think AdChemist is the picture you want to paint. Maybe use your keywords plus your location. For example "chicagomarketingwhiz" or something like that. It's more memorable, helps with branding and great for getting you ranked on Google.

here's the problem I see with your domain: too many people might mistake it for "The Alchemist" (which, as you may know, was a phenomenally popular book by Paulo Coelho) and type that into the browser.

When you are deriving your brand name off a more popular product (whatever niche it may be in), you always risk losing your personal identity to the popular product.

I would suggest getting a domain that doesn't remind the average visitor of something else..

    Hi,
I have a number of sites out and about, one always wants to think of this great catchy slogan for a site, I have found that the reality is if you link your url directly to the specific keyword /product you are targeting you will have a much easier time with the search engines.

Think of it as how many people will be searching for that domain in say a google search. This will also relate to kick pages etc.. chose your domain name so it will match your clients searches.

for instance one of my kick pages to a cubcart store is ojime.co.uk -- the clients web site deals with Japanese antiques of which Ojime are one.. in a google search for Ojime we are page one and at the top. same with another silver proof coins and gold proof coins - both kicking to goldproofcoins.co.uk

The silver proof coin and ojime urls are one html page.. don't look it but they are - hyperlinking to the main sites - very little promotion but showing page one one google for the chosen keyword !!! -

choose the domain with this in mind.

    Regards

    Andrew

If to come with this Domain to this Forum it should be OK.If to present it to the out of Warrior Forum Community it could be not quite clear what you are doing. It is a little bit pretending on my opinion.Adchemist should be somebody who is creating Ads.Is it what you are doing? Looks like, Not!
I would go back to the Domain Registrar and tried to register something different.
