Quick New Years Tip for your Computer

Hey guys,

I just thought I would share this in case you are forgetful like I am.

When I first got this computer I am working on right now, I turned off the Disk Cleanup and Defrag Utilities. (I am using XP on this machine - I think Vista defrags automatically in the background)

Long story short -

I deleted a bunch of old programs I don't use anymore, tons of mp3's, ebooks, training videos, and other nonsense stuff that is outdated anyway!

Then I ran the Clean Disk Utility and degragged the hard drive.

I cannot believe the difference it made! This thing is a race horse again.

I hope this helps - anybody else have any maintenance tips that dumbasses like me might have turned off years ago?

Allen

  • You might also want to look into the free tool called CCleaner, you'd be shocked at all the temp files and registry errors you have on your machine.
  • Get a mac, that will end all your problems.

    • I agree with the above, also the best practice is to keep all your work on an external hard disk so if there was a major crash with your PC, then at least your work files are ok

this is how I work on my MAC and PC

I have the OS, the applications that I need and obviously no other gimmicky software or utils..... and a means of backing this up, I have a ghost image of the PC so if I ever needed to rebuild, i just put the image back on the PC and hey presto, im working again, only takes 10 mins to rebuild with ghost

The rebuild process on the MAC is far more quicker than on the PC in my opinion, takes me 45 mins to rebuild the MAC

      hope this helps

  • Thanks for all the inputs. I will do these guides in the future if needed.
