What do you struggle with in Internet Marketing?

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if I can pick your brain.

So everyone struggles with some aspect of making a success of themselves online. But is there anything specific that you would need help on?

I know some stuff that people need help with are:

- trafifc generation
- Increasing conversions
- SEO

Are there any other things that would make your lives easier online? Could you share some specifics?

This goes out to newbies, intermediates and advanced IM'ers.

Thanks for taking the time to share you thoughts.

Gee

    Appearing on camera.

That's my biggest hurdle. I can record my voice without problem but seeing myself on cam makes me shudder.

    Too self-analytical I guess.

That's one step better than me - I hate the sound of my own voice. Bleugh. That and I stutter and stumble over my words the whole time - and yet in real life, face to face, I could talk both your years off! :p

The biggest thing for me would honestly be guidance. A big brother / mentor person or persons to go to with the 101 questions I have, usually on stupid little things. Being able to ask "is this ok" or "how does this look" knowing you are getting an honest answer back etc.

I realise this forum is great for getting help, I can attest to that so very much this past week or so... but it would still be nice to feel like someone is working alongside/with you while you learn.

      Does that make sense?

Do you mean keeping up with the changes in IM, or looking at time management skills/ keeping organised?

            A couple things here:

            1) Finding time to keep up with all the change. Back to Franklin (Covey) Planner system and prioritizing.

            2) Taking enough of the right time to choose the most trustworthy, promising solutions to online issues - -a possible huge time (money and effort) killer.

For example: One thing I struggle with is internet marketers who have to know better, i.e. big name internet marketers, who simply refuse to supply support for their product - -mainly some sort of software script. These people not only have one product on the market, but more, that simply has bug after bug - -major ones - reported, yet no help via their "support" channels. And they charge monthly fees that do say they include support.

Results are entire programs you have established with them becoming meaningless while insults are piled on with "silence" from any support channels posted on their sites that do not even bother to email you back in weeks, months, ever. That's actually criminal if you look at what you've purchased, but not an attorney, so won't go there deeper here.

Internet marketers need to realize that the web evolves and scripts need to have support for this evolution when they are charging monthly fees and promising support. The old saying, "Silence is golden" does not apply here.

If you do not intend to offer support, don't say support comes with the purchase, and make it a one-time sale, because it will need support later on to keep up with the web's evolution.

So tackle that (how to use time better to choose better internet marketing solutions from the get-go) and you have a best-selling solution. I attempted to do this and wrote about it on my Warrior blog, "Before You Buy Content from Someone, Note These 4 Things... " but still have to iron out rough spots with some purchasing decision-making issues. Hope that helps

      Hey Louise,

You look OK to me - but it is a bit of a shock when you're there on screen!

But,I have to say don't worry about it just do it! - Because I believe YOU (eg REAL people) are the very best marketing there is for 2010,and beyond, because ordinary people are taking to the 'net and want to connect with 'real' people.

      To Your Success,

Im totally with you on that one Louise.

See i have always been kind of self conscious of my weight.

As you can see im pretty darn skinny.

Trust me i have tried the whole camera thing and they say cameras put 20 pounds on you.

Thats bull because my cam took 20 pounds off of me instead.

I have been sticking to doing audios but one day i would love to do a video.

So if theres ever someone clever enough to build a software to add weight to a vid let me know.

      Ill buy it.

      Hey Louise,

If you are not comfortable in front of the camera, just relay your message via screen capture software for the core of your work, I know many successful marketers who do this. Just remember most people I more concerned about what you have to say as apposed to what you look like.

That totally makes sense. It'd almost like having a bit of security.

Ok so far Louise and Melanie have kind of mentioned confidence is an issue, and something they would like to improve on. Thanks for the input ladies.

Anyone else got anything to add?

I literally hate writing articles. I don't mind anything else in regards to Internet Marketing. I'm not lazy, and I'm a pretty decent writer but I just plainly hate writing articles. I think I'd make more money if I just bit the bullet and wrote them instead of outsourcing them....but....god I hate it =)

That totally makes sense. Be honest and do what you say you will do. So some type of guidance on buying products would help, like receiving honest reviews, and not "Affiliate reviews". Thanks for the input.

Keep the ideas coming everyone. Just post what you think no matter how large or small the issue you have.

I used to fight doing videos, now I love doing them, it takes time to get used to seeing and hearing yourself on the camera. I like writing articles but do outsource them.

I do struggle with following up with some of my warm leads. It requires phone calls and would prefer them calling me or e-mail contact. Going to get better with that in 2010 !!!

As for me, I struggle with what I call "Warrior Forum Addiction".

This forum is so filled with some astonishing information that you may end up not doing anything else apart from trying to learn from one thread to another.

One of the negative implications is that you may become confused as a result of being overloaded with information.

My problem is focus and I am assuming a lot of new people also have this problem. I thought sod it and wrote down most of the stuff I know on papers, seo, list building, traffic, everything... I know more then enough to generate organic traffic, article and forum traffic. I can fully optimize a site, I knew more then I thought but the main problem I will face is, focusing, its hard unfortunately and I think the only way to break it is by getting out of the house.

I have trouble with traffic generation. I'm maintaining science related news site(digg like) and i don't know how to bring contributors to this site. Manual posting and paid contributors are not working for me. So biggest problem for me right now is traffic generation and member involvement.

(Oh and i have that camera fear as well, so most of my howto videos are strictly on topic and not on myself-lack of personal touch you can say).

Struggling? Can we say totally hate IM?

I'm the creative sort that love to make things - be it from my imagination (scary...trust me) or from ideas or things that I read.

Being said, when it comes to the idea of IM I usually look for a rock to climb
under. It's an odd reaction for someone that used to do advertising and such.
But that biz I understood...it was mostly the hype, glam and outright lies that made me get out of it. Sorta like the circus - all sawdust and glitter. The stuff that goes on behind the scenes isn't what anyone would want to know about. Just like the magician with the illusion of magic - some don't want to see behind the smoke and mirrors.

Now I've been in web design longer than I've had it as a business. I'm no copywriter so I didn't have a beef with the content issues. I was just the pretty frame builder. But to get work for my business I looked around to see about the trends.

Well, that led to the overwhelming discovery of all the gurus, hype, make cash now and everything else. I admit I got sucked in. My email got bombed with free this and that - along with a ton of IM stuff.

Of all the things that bug me the most - I think it's the fact that most IM sales letters I see are a mile long! I don't want to know about someone else go on about their life story of suffering - then like Cinderella something magical happened and their now rich. If I won the lottery or PCH I'd be rich too - but it only seems to happen in my dreams.

Frankly, I get tired of the doctored video, the ton of FREE bonuses and all yours for this special price - blah blah blah. Even if the video is live and not one of those touched up ones - they still did a heck of a lot more than they said they did to make those sales and get the numbers up. Who knows! Maybe they went and bought a bunch of stuff or had someone go buy a bunch just to make the numbers spike!

When will someone who is making a nice steady amount of money, just come and offer this reproducible system for a fair price without trying to sell a ton of rubbish with it...and showing that it really can make money and even shows exactly what they do to generate that income. No hype. No fancy bells and whistles. Just plain and simple. Something I can try it out and it will work. With all the niches out there there has to be something that can be done with a bit of input that can generate a steady and fair income.

I don't know if rich would fit me...but I would just like to be able to breathe. Not stress all the time, not have to work and worry and deal with the usual headaches.

I just want to find a way to be able to do something over and over with the same results. Nothing mind blowing - no huge spike...just steady income.

Is that impossible? If not...where's the one that knows the secret?

Right now with the site I'm working on it's increasing conversions. Have a good amount of traffic for the niche (2,000 per day) but my conversion rate isn't as great as I'd like it to be. Currently testing out a number of things such as new layout, pop-up on exit, new video, and sales copy. Any conversion increasing tips?!

I think alot of folks have trouble nailing down the basics such as driving traffic to squeeze page, building a list and than cultivating that list to trust your recomendations and read your newsletters through relationship marketing.

One thing I've noticed over the years is that if you can build a very responsive list in a niche than you have a steady income stream. Build a few of those reponsive lists and you have multiple income streams.

Now,here is the sad part - I know all this and yet I''ve been very negligent at building responsive lists. That is one part of my online business I plan to significantly improve upon this year.

Driving traffic - No problem. Capturing that traffic and monetizing it - An identified big problem of mine which will be corrected this year.

    Respectfully,
    Tim

    Hello,

My main concern at the moment is how to get qualified traffic to my website. I hear/read of the many clever ways, but they don't really seem to work for me. Everyone who is reasonably successful as an IM claims to have a solution and maybe they do...I don't know...they must of got where they are today somehow. I only know what I have been reading and there are a lot of common threads, but there seems to be a lot of confusion about this. SEO seems to to be very hard work indeed. And Adwords doesn't seem appropriate right now for me. Tried JVs but no one is interested. Viral Marketing seems interesting, but it strikes of the old MLM concept which I don't like.

So I am still searching for a good sensible approach.

    Any ideas?

    Lawrence
