Solved. Help, I just spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to search paypal for transaction ID

10 replies
I have spent the last 30 minutes trying to find a way to search my paypal account for a specific transaction ID, but I can't find a way to do it.

If anyone can explain how to search for transaction ID, merchant e-mail address and merchant ID, I'd put on my happy face instead of the one I'm wearing now :confused:

    On the top menu, click:

    History -> Advanced search

    Then type the transaction id in the box on the next screen and select "Transaction ID" from the pull down.

    Hope that helps!

    Bjarne,

    Once you're logged in to your PayPal account, roll over the "History" link. Then, from that menu, click the "Advanced" link.

    From there you should be able to put in your Transaction ID and find the info on it. Just make sure you select "Transaction ID" from the drop down menu on the right

      Thanks for replying, but the problem is that under the History link I only get the following choices:
      • Basic Search
      • Download History
      • Reports
      • IPN History

        YES,YES,YES! I found it!

        I have a merchant account too, btw.

        Seems Paypal have restructured the layout, at least for norwegian customers:rolleyes:

        There doesn't seem to be anything called "Advanced search" for me anymore.

        I have to:

        1. Click on the "History" tab
        2. Click on the "Find a transaction" link.
        3. Use the drop-down menu to choose "Transaction ID".

        The funny thing, or rather not so funny thing, is that even on paypals help page for merchants, it still tells me to click on the "Advanced search" tab, which now seem to have vanished, at least for me.

        Maybe I should send an invoice to paypal for time lost? Nah, they probably won't find it when they search for it

        Still, thanks for your helping out, all of you!

    I believe you go to History, Then Advanced Search, and from the drop down choose transaction ID, and enter it in there, choose the right time period to search through, and hit search. I might be off though :\

    Hmmm... well I have a merchant account, do only merchant accounts get the advanced search?

    That's really weird Bjarne. Looks like the "Advanced" option just went rouge on you! It should be listed there in the drop down, don't know why it wouldn't be.

    Maybe another Warrior can answer this puzzle?

    @Lee - I was just thinking the same thing....again!

    Oooh - that's a pet peeve of mine. Services changing their layout and not updating their docs. More often than not, the layout changes are some "UX" person's idea of "better flow" or "improved usability" some such nonsense. When your help docs don't match your system, that's *horrible* usability. ESPECIALLY for a service you're paying $ for.

    There's a mail service I'm looking at starting to use next month. They've actually been working for 2 years, but have recently started to 'beta' to the public. One of the reasons they haven't "gone live" yet is that they don't have all their system documented to their satisfaction yet. I'm looking forward to working with them when they do launch, because that attitude is sorely lacking with most companies today.

      That's a fine attitude, unless they decide to stay in beta forever, so they never have to fix their documentation
