Hi

I use my mobile phone 'to do list' feature. It is always with me and can be set with or without target dates. Mostly I just list what needs done, after taking 5 minutes or so each day to review. Yes its simple but somethimes the simpler the better. Its easy to get caught up very complex systems which add no great value.

Of course I am trying to use Google calender for things since I'm signed in most of the time. It's helped when I remember to use it.

I never realized how great mind-mapping could be until I tried it. I use XMind - Social Brainstorming and Mind Mapping.

I'm using that one myself and really like it.. and its free.. (also not affiliated)

I use a simple program called Stickies to arrange my tasks into a list, and a kitchen timer to ensourage me to focus on one thing for blocks of time.

It's easy to fall out of this habit though so you have to actively stick with it.

I print out a too do list and cross out what I need to get done. I usually keep all my appointments in my brain. Like I know on a Monday I have a job, and on Wednesday I have an estimate. Sometimes when business picks up greatly I'll have to make a more sophisticated list, but it all works out.

I used a timer and MS Excel; works for me.

I've used Franklin Planner for years and happy with it as long as I use it consistently and the way it's intended to be used.

For personal tasks management astrid (free task manager app) on Andriod phone. It really help you keep all tasks in front you, and timely reminders help me keep on track.

Also todo list on paper/whiteboard also help me things todo in front of my eyes.

For project management, I have used: Trello and Basecamp and just recently
started using teamworkpm and loving it.

For projects, etc., nothing beats Basecamp for the care they put in little things that matter. They are very, very good for a project management app (and thus very popular, too).

For just tasks, Asana is also fairly decent. Do.com is another okay option.

Like Shoaib, I use mindmapping with Xmind. It's an incredible tool for organising your brain. Even if I start with absolutely no idea where to start, it's not long before I have a fully formed mindmap and a much clearer idea of my direction.

I will then make a "What Matters" list of things that need to get done and write down 5 things on a Post-it to do today. Any more than that and it won't all get done.

I also use Google calendar for reminders of Webinars etc.

And to keep myself focused and away from distractions like Gmail and Facebook I use Leechblock Firefox addon, which allows me to block those sites as well as Rescue Time which keeps track of my productivity and which programs and websites I'm using most so I can see where I'm going wrong

I started using xmind map about a year ago, it has great features.
With it you can take complete controll of your time and manage things in a great manner,

I use a few greta tools - I like simplicity so they all do something that's useful but without a lot of fuss.

1. Rainlendar desktop calendar - syncs with Google calendar, which i share with my missus and that helps prevent the arguments that used to happen cos I am "at home doing nothing" while she is working.
Also - the following Chrome extensions:
2. Strict Workflow - a pomedero counter which creates MASSIVE productivity and alleviates bad backs etc.
3. Readability for reading stuff later on my iPad app, so i don't end up wasting time on personal stuff when researching
4. Ecernote - everyone knows how good this is
5. Google Drive - so I can save stuff straight to my Drive folder - great for images - and you can move them into your Google Plus account - the smaller ones are free
6. Roboform. You can fill out an 'identity' on this which fills forms - great for submitting the same details to multiple sites like for book giveaways
7. Take Screenshot - can't believe this is a free extension - it's the best capture software I have found for free
8. Any.DO - this is BRILLIANT! Not only can you click on it to make a nice simple dropdown "To do" list, but it integrates with GMail and asks if you need to follow up on the email you are reading and you can set a time or date you want to follow up on it.
9. Wunderlist is great for project management - simple layout and interaction.
10. This is one of my secret weapons: ZeroPC - you will LOVE this cloud storage app (it's a browser for laptops an app on iPad and phone)
11. Lastly, there's web2pdf extension which will allow me create a PDF of this thread so I can keep it somewhere for reference while I go through everyone's answers here!

I only use notepad.... and when it's important i write it in my notebook #oldschool

it's light weight, super fast, takes approximately 0secs to load. Evernote/gCal has nothing on this

Asana is one of the best provided you don't need it on a cell phone, their mobile app is crap.

Do.com has a better mobile app but isn't quite a good overall.

For super basic task management on a mobile device Any.do is pretty decent.

I have a spreadsheet that functions as a weekly to-do list. The dates are across the top and the tasks I need to do are listed down the site. I know my list is not something that can be completed in a day, but I can easily see the daily tasks and see which weekly tasks or time-sensitive tasks I have or have not touched yet as the week goes on. I simply tick things off as I go along.

I use whiteboards to note monthly, and weekly goals. Then I simply work until they are reached. I don't like the idea of being super organized. If I wanted that, I could have kept my 9-5 job. I prefer the freedom my own system (which isn't really a system - I simple put the stuff that needs to be done on the wall) and the freedom that comes with it.

For time management as well as project management, I have been using Replicon softwares and apps. The products have an open API which integrates all other related softwares to work pretty well and give an desired end result. Hi - My favourite time management software is to use Evernote to apply Getting Things Done - David Allen's system.

Evernote works to apply this system because you can tag each note you create. I have a notebook called "to-dos" and each note in this notebook is - you've guessed it - a to do!

I tag each to do with a prioritisation tag - Now, Next, Soon, Later and Sometime. By clicking any of these tags I can see what needs to be done. So by clicking Now, I can immediately see my most important tasks.

To plan my work and feed it into Evernote as tasks are use a variety of tools depending on what seems most appropriate; A mind mapping tool (I use Mind Manager but that's a bit pricey and Xmind is almost as good), a flowcharting tool (I use Smartdraw - also pricey - but again, yEd is free and really good to use), Microsoft Word in outline mode which is great for planning, or a flip chart.

Then once I got the plan down on paper I feed the to dos into Evernote.

This works well for me.

For me, after trying a LOT of complex systems, I find that simple works best. Real old school. Sure all the deadlines and appointments are in my phone and computer calenders, but when it comes to focus, here's what works best:

1 real post-it note. Before I go to bed, I list the 3 (not 2, certainly not 4) tasks that I'm going to complete the next day. Absolutely have to complete those tasks.

There's a lot of science behind this, actually. The human brain can 'manage' a list of 3 things very easily. Add a 4th and distraction sets in. You'll see this system in use by a lot of top presenters in both their video and text programs.

Rule of 3, works for me.

I use evernote for ideas and projects. It syncs up so I can add notes and ideas from my computer, or phone, or ipad. It's pretty sweet since I can write post or product ideas on the go and then finish them when I get home. It helps since my brain is always on!

As far as time management.... still working on figuring that one out.

For me a simple paper works best I just write my to-do list and note the top 3 things I must complete no matter what.

For organizing my thoughts I use mindmapping tool - Mindjet.

For saving links / notes/ thoughts /etc I use Evernote.

I have used Basecamp but to be honest i like just organizing my list/tasks in google drive either on an excel sheet or document.

I like to keep it simple. I just write a to-do-list on a notepad for what needs to be done on the following day. When I wake-up I know exactly what I need to do in order to say I had a "successful day".

The tools and suggestions for this topic are good. However I would like to suggest an additional means that I consider powerful. That is to consider how the subconscious mind can be influenced in a beneficial and highly effective way. Create what is referred to as a Vision Board.
A Vision Board is analogous to a artistic collage. The board acts as a ordinary bulletin board with textual reminders and statements, with the addition of pictures and other graphical representations of the project. Using your imagination, get as creative as you dare.
Vision Boards are used to great effect by many entrepreneurs.

I use Google calendars, but, I print mine out and schedule my activities on them so that I have something physical to look at.
I use a timer throughout the day. I schedule tasks for an hour and if I finish the tasks for the day and I still have time left, I use it for education.
Works very well because I only schedule 3 major tasks a day.

Started using the service from hiTask.com which allows you to create to do lists, manage appointments and events, and even collaborate with team members via the cloud. You can also use Google Sync to link Calendar, Gmail, and Contacts which I love.

i'm still using old school stuff like note book or i'm using my cell phone. if anybody knows the best app for android to make n keep our 'to do list',please share.

I don't know but using automated tools kinda make us lazy.

For me, I just write it down on a pocket notebook and just set alarms throughout the day to know my schedule.

I use google calendar, google drive, google keep, and a white/cork board combination in my office. When you use google calendar you can create seperate calendar for each segment of your life. For instance I have a personal calendar, content calendar, work calendar, a daily calendar etc. You can color code these calendars and turn them on and off.

You can also create a Task calendar from your gmail tasks that you can check off once the items are done. Google keep is similar to Tasks in Gmail although it is a who other application. I I like to keep it as simple as possible so I usually just use calendar and Tasks.

You can also use Google drive for a number of things. I keep a journal there as well as a running to do list of things that are not critical but that I want to accomplish in the future. The best part about gogle drive is that it is not device or even device type specific so you can use it on a laptop, pc, tablet, apple, and droid and always have access to the same documents.

What I have recently been experimenting with in drive is the "Form". I use different google forms to keep track of my key performance indicators on social media, daily revenue tracking, repetitive to do lists, and more. It is great because you can hook it up to a google spreadsheet and you can automatically record the answers to the form, the date and time etc so that you can go back and have a record of wjhatever information you may be storing.

Have you tried Rescuetime? It is a tool that can help you manage time, where it runs silently on the background of the computer. It works well, until I found a new alternative to it. I tried Time Doctor and I find it more useful, where it allows me to organize tasks and set priority. Good thing about this software it is not intrusive.
