Your Sales Page - Designed Or Just A Simple Ugly Page?

Hi folks,

I'm just asking some opinions here.

Which do you think will convert better -- sales page with those fancy banners and footer...or just the old-school, plain, no header and no footer sales page?

Depends on your audience, if they are people from the warrior forum and other like minded people then flashy.

If they are your every day search engine traffic in many cases a generic blog does better then some hyped up flash sales page.

    One word...

    TEST.

You will never know for yourself unless you test and tweak aspects.

Each site, niche, list, audience is different and will respond to different stimuli.

    Kindest regards,
    Karl.

I believe it depends on the market if it is making money online or anything money orientated then fancy designs work best I would say (opinion only).

However if its the health sector or fitness sector then it would be up to testing however I would guess that it would not be a major playing factor like it would be with the MMO section or investment section.

    Just my op...

Personally, I think a designed sales page increases
STICK RATE which in turn, possibly helps the conversion
rate because people stick around longer to read.

Then again, because pictures speak a thousand
words... a bad design could also just as quickly
    cause people to leave.

As Karl stated... test. But in his case, for his
graphics, I say... test with his graphics.

I'm going to elaborate on this...

I make my living designing sales-page graphics, however, I am going to say something nobody would expect me to say...

GRAPHICS WILL NOT SELL YOUR PRODUCT.

They *can* be one factor which *could* affect conversions...
    Sometimes adversely.

Good copy, a valuable offer, the way you present the offer, your reputation all play a part in the marketing mix too.

You can have the ugliest salespage and the best copy - and sell bucketloads.
You can have the best looking sales page and the poorest copy - and sell nothing.

You could even find, that if you made your ugly salespage in the above example prettier (with graphics) that you damage conversions...

    Or, you could increase them.
Which is why I say test.

    [EDIT] To add the following...

This is why, if your budget allows it, you should consider different designs...

A lot of the top-flight marketers will try this, instead of sticking with one designer - they will commission various designs and run them through a split-testing script, eventually settling on the design which converts the best.

    Kindest regards,
    Karl.

    Hey Desmond

I once saw a video by warriors Jason Parker and Lance T.

I think the test they made showed that the "minimalist design"
converts more than the "bare" and the "High-end" design..

I'm not so sure about the exact details..but if I can remember it
right, it's goes something like that..

Also I'm not sure if that will work across the board.

    All the best,

Really if it is only one page it is easy to test making both pages and see what works the best. I must admit that I had more luck with simple pages but I know some folks that love page to be all flash and animation and that works for them much better. cheers and hopefully you get many sales

Personally, I think image around your sales copy can be distracting.

About 70% of my sales pages right now are just white page with simple sales copy (with some highlights and colors and bolds) because I was so lazy to deal with web designers.

I'm asking this because I want to know from those who have tested this.
