Is coaching still a thing or has it died in popularity?
How much would it cost to get a coach for like 1 to 3 months?

Coach would teach a newbies how to get started online from website, product, list building and launch?

Coaching is still in I do it myself and charge around $25 to $35 hourly depending on the topic they want to learn about or need help with.

My point still stands (I charge $275 for 15 minutes/$1,100 hour), people still call me, pay upfront with a CC, and want to get advice. Every month I get several calls from people who want to talk about their business.

I charge very high fees to put together a Comprehensive Business Blueprint. Anywhere from $30,000 to $100,000 year one. Some people would rather hear some ideas first before they proceed. I do give them a Full credit for the calls "if" they move forward and hire me.

Recently I had a small manufacturer who wanted advice but didn't want to pay for my full services. I had been recommended by a friend of the CEO.

They wanted advice on how to restructure their antiquated 1970's style business that their father had formed. After several hours worth of phone calls (they deposited $2,500 upfront with a CC) they decided to go with a Business Blueprint (on Mindjet). The cost for the mindmap was $7,500.

I spent one full day, about 8 hours laying out a very comprehensive plan. I then met with the CEO and her husband in my office for about 2 hours to then walked them through the blueprint.

The CEO is a control freak and she wanted to implement the strategies herself. That deal alone netted me $10,000 back in October 2009.

I never said "I sit in my office 8 hours a day and take calls." First of all, that would be a brain drain. It's not easy coming up with ideas for each and every company I work with. I have a Checklist that I use to give me an idea of what "may" work and what options may be available, but it's hard work.

Most here could NOT do what I do. It takes years of experience, trial and error to get where I am at today. Don't be misled and think you can buy some "Offline Gold" program and you're an Expert.

Business owners have a keen sense of the BS factor. You either know it or you don't. That's why I can command big bucks. A business owner can sit down with me face to face and get immediate answers.

I can lead them to vendors, suppliers, outside help, etc.. rolling words off my tongue. No notebook, laptop, smartphone, etc... here's the answer Mr Bus owner.

Here's the strategy, the ROI, and who can help us implement this idea.

Bus owners appreciate fast, direct answers with no BS. It either works or it don't.

This is a good topic. I realize a lot of pros don't want to be called over the phone hence pricing themselves out altogether to avoid the hassle. And it's more comfortable here on Warrior to basically post at your will and on your own time offering a bit of advice here and there.
But do you charge for a little consultation/advice through maybe Skype or MSN, etc?

I don't doubt there are expert professional coaches who've achieved great success themselves and are teaching others how to fish rather than catching a fish for them, and are worth every penny of their fees. But on a smaller scale, with a private individual who isn't primarily an IM coach, I suspect it pays to remember that fishing is potentially much better paid than coaching and to look at whether the coach needs the client more than the client needs the coach. Just saying.

I hate when people say that. So not true.

You can learn a lot here, but only if you have a ton of time.

Many people don't have months to learn.

I spend tens of thousands per year at Perry Marshall, Dan Kennedy, Ken McCarthy seminars etc... I can assure you I learn info that will never be available here.

        I agree.

Coaching allows shortcuts in your learning curve. There is a ton of information here and loads that can be learned (both for free and from purchasing good wso's) - however, it takes time and you have to careful from information overload.

On the flip side coaching can be counterproductive if you pick the wrong person.

When i first started IM in early 2006 i attended the WIS. I invested in a $5k coaching program (the guy is a member here) and it was a complete waste of time.

The only good thing that came from that coaching for me was to learn that there was a forum called the warriorforum. This is where my true learning came from.

    Hey Sam,

What you could do is familiarise yourself with some of the information you've got in the forum as you'll get it for free. It may take some time getting your head around things, but then you can always ask questions and look for guidance here. But try not to take everything you read on here as gospel.

Keep an eye out in the Services and WSO Threads for a month or so and I'm sure you'll come across some sort of coaching offer.

Coaching can be expensive, so I hope you have a budget (or not if you have no limit) and are willing to spend for quality assistance.

It is a good question, but there is no definitive answer to that. How long is a piece of string?

I don't coach. I first have to figure out how to coach myself, lol. When it comes to setting prices, for me it is simply to ask, "How much would I need to charge to be able to properly devote myself to the task at hand and do the best job possible?"

I sometimes laugh at the idea of coaching, life coach, etc. Guess jobs I did before (related to tourism) exposed me to the bad side of too many people -- martial arts instructors, medical doctors, yoga teachers, counselors, etc. However, yesterday I caught myself thinking that it would be nice to have a coach sometimes, lol, so there you go.

What do you even get when you phone someone for 30 mins, I am not into that since, well, I ain't got that sort of money and if I did I would use it else where. What do you talk to your clients about for 200 bucks every 15 mins =/ (If it is what ever they want, please give a rough example.)

$750 for 15mins, Wow!!!. I don't think coaching is something that will go away. It's something every newbie needs to get ahead. Forget the idea that you can learn it all here in the forum.
In business, you need a lot of self motivation and acountability. Just like schools, you get your teacher giving you assignments and task to help you learn new skill, they then mark your work to ensure you did it right.

Most courses tell you what to do, however you still need someone to help you understand if you did it right or not. If you built your optin page right or not, if you created a great offer or a poor one.

Coaching is a constant, it will never die out because people need coaching in all walks of life (not just sports).

There is no standard pricing for coaching. Some people have offered it for free, others have charged $1,000 per hour. It depends on how much hand-holding you need, your level of expertise, what specific skill sets you're looking to learn, the expertise level of the coach, and how in demand the coach is. Many coaches also factor in their opportunity cost. For example, if someone values their time at $350 an hour, then that's how much they might charge you.

For example, Tony Robbins has billionaires who pay him a million a year as retainer fee for his advice (and they still consider it a bargain because of the ROI they receive). Some coaches charge an hourly fee, others charge a flat "project" rate, and the varieties are almost endless. It really depends on what you are looking for, the caliber of the talent, and supply and demand.

Also, one-on-one coaching is generally more expensive than group coaching (for obvious reasons). You're going to find fees that are all over the place, so make sure you research the coach thoroughly and be prepared to ask her or him a few questions about what they do. If they seem rushed or disinterested or even evasive, thank them for their time and move on because that's someone that's probably not a good fit for you.

Coaching is all about filling a need. I have noticed that many people offering products then offer a coaching program subsequently. This makes sense since most people will buy a product and not do anything with it. They will be motivated to get the coaching because, at that moment, they are looking for that specific kind of help.

In the summer of last year I paid $997 for a great 8 week coaching program, and it was worth that money alone just for all the contacts and friends I've made from it...

I started as a complete newbie with info overload, and I just needed one person who was already successful, to tell me how how they got started, instead of trying to follow all the different methods of making money that are available in a place like this.

So for me it was all very worth it, and luckily I could afford it.

If you are thinking about joining a coaching program, I would go for one that has a private community forum, which is what the coaching program that I'm in has.. That way even after the coaching is over, you still have access to your mentor and other fellow students who haven't fallen off the boat.

Think of it this way - what is the cost of making mistakes? A coach helps you learn a routine, helps reinforce the methods that he knows works, helps hold you accountable for the plans you have in place, gives you a shove when you need it, provides answers when you have questions rather than having you spend hours looking for the right answer.

Some coaches are good and some are bad. Look at any sport. Some know how to get more out of the people they coach than others.

Think Tiger Woods doesn't appreciate his coach? Now if he had a life coach he might not be where he is today

Some people can do but not teach. I had a martial arts instructor once who was a world class athlete. He knew his stuff inside and out. But I spent a lot of time teaching the new people because I had to work for every bit of it. I had to think about it and break it down into small steps. His flowed. Mine was pieces of the pie. It was easier for new people to catch on when I worked with them and much easier for advanced people to progress quickly working with him.

What is your time worth? Can a coach help you accelerate up the learning curve? For many people simply being held accountable drives them. They need an external stimulus vs being internally motivated.

Coaching is so much more than just giving information. Most people pay for my coaching because of the accountability factor - if on the 2nd session they don't have done what they were supposed to have, then... well... they feel like an idiot.

So it's more about getting stuff done than anything.

I have several coaching clients who pay me for an hour a time continually - and it's $250 an hour with no price breaks for multiple sessions... and it must be well worth it because they keep coming back for more.

If you're someone who wants to SELL coaching - the trick is to put an information business in front it. We actually never publicly advertise ANY coaching service - our clients come to us and ask... after they check out my products... in fact I will NOT coach anyone unless they have first purchased something from me.

This makes coaching very enjoybale and pleasureable, and I get lots of great clients from it who go on to do big things. Most know what they SHOULD be doing already - it's when I give them the clarity of implementing it and the accountability that makes it worthwhile.
